+17 Internets | We were looking at this at my work. Basically the Unreal tools were always free, sans source code. But if you wanted to distribute, users had to have the game installed to run your custom mod. With this kit you can distribute a standalone U3 engine game without requiring users to have any other game installed (which is very nice). If you want source though you still have to buy a real developer license, which isn't that much of a drawback since you can do a ton of stuff with UScript. +79 Internets | This is HUGE! To bad I suck at making levels with this editor, never was good at removing brushes to make objects instead of building them. Give me some clay I will mold you something decent, give me a chunk of wood or ice and you are fucked. Still, wouldn't mind giving it another shot. If anyone has some levels/worlds/zones etc needed I wouldn't mind putting some time into it. |

+79 Internets | Really? Haven't touched it since Unreal 2006(I think maybe 07) has anything else majorly changed? Need to make a skybox like hammer? Can you easily attach any type of physics to brushes like breaking glass or shattering wood? I will check it out myself soon but lack internet at home for a few more days. |

+2 Internets | No need for a skybox, and physics is there in some capacity at least. I haven't really used its physics on anything though, so I don't know much about it. It still pretty much feels like the older versions I think, so you'd probably be able to get into it pretty quickly if you've used other versions. It's probably a good idea to dig up the collector's edition tutorial videos though, since they'll run you through some of the handy things like the material editor. |

+7 Internets | UDK Anyone got any decent tutorials for UDK? I've searched around and only found a few for the older versions. And while they work for the most part, usually a few steps have been changed and its a little difficult to follow. Mind you, I have no experience with this type of program, just trying it out for fun. Heres a quick question: Where is the "Generic browser" in this version? In the tutorials I've been reading it tells me to open the Generic Browser, usually located under View. However I can't seem to find it. (Obviously, it's going to be in front of my face the whole time :P ) Last edited by Darkko; 11-13-2009 at 04:11 AM.. |

| For those of you who have worked in the SDK before, with what Epic has released for free (non-commercial), is it possible to create something like an MMO from that. It looked to me like you can do networking functions in uscript, so theoretically you could write the client with the UDK and build your own server in C++ with a DB backend. However, I have no experience with uscript so I don't know if there are any penalties for doing the networking with uscript. |
