+25 Internets | Mount&Blade Mod - asoiaf Decided I would make a mod for M&B based on the book series, a song of ice and fire. The gameplay seems like it would really suit the story, though obviously not perfectly, and would be fun to do. So far I'm just working on the map before I delve into the coding needed to change the factions and lords and relationships etc. Installation, go the the M&B directory, and locate the modules directory. In there make a copy of the Native directory and rename it whatever you want, I use asoiaf. unzip the attached files into the new directory, overwriting those existing files. When you start up, select the new module as the one to play. Note, I take no responsibility if you mess up the Native directory files which is the core game since you're not meant to play in that one at all! Let me know what you think. --- Version 0.12 Changed to real factions. Changed kings of factions to appropriate names. Changed companions to characters from the books. --- Version 0.11 Added in most of the rivers. Add height to the landmass. --- Version 0.1 flat base map. Major cities and towns renamed, villages left unchanged. forests added. basic textures laid out. Last edited by Faille; 02-19-2009 at 07:55 PM.. |

+167 Internets | Couple of things. First off, the map doesn't scroll far enough to see the stuff at the extreme ends of the map. Places like Castle Black you can't get too. Also, there are some major rivers missing and a couple of typos. Other than that this is awesome! |

Not sure about the typos, the editor I used is crap and won't alllow lower case w's so had to use upper case ones. In either case, once the map is done, all the towns will be stripped out and rebuilt according to the real factions, so not a major issue. scrolling issue I'm not sure about, I'll look into that today.

As for the scrolling, if you notice in Native MB, the map extends out past the last cities that you see. With your map, Castle Black is all the way at the top with nothing else behind it. if you extend your map further into the north (just white forest should work) then the map will scroll past Castle Black and stop somewhere further. That probably didn't make much sense...i'll make a video or something when I get home. What maps are you using for reference? Last edited by Screamfeeder; 02-18-2009 at 03:57 PM..

+25 Internets | the scrolling issue is fixed. basically need the module.ini file which stores the camera locks. I'll include it with the next version started using the maps from the Medieval 2 mod but then found this site which was a little better for city / river placement, and probably what I'll use when adding in the factions / names. | Good luck with this mod man I really hope you can put it all together. I cannot wait to check this out as GRRM series seems almost tailor made for this game. Thanks for the effort you have put forth and will be putting forth. |

+25 Internets | Anyone one got thoughts on the factions to use and the unit trees they would have? I was thinking of Lannister, Tully, Renly, Tyrell, Stark, MArtell, Stannis, Arryn. Greyjoy I would like also, especially since they suit nords, but without sea travel they might not work well. maybe a small coastal settlement for them? |

| It really depends on if you are choosing to try and encompass the whole series or perhaps certain books. If you are going for all the books then you have a pretty good idea of who to put it although I would think "The Night's Watch" would warrant a separate faction as well. Faction trees could be tough because you would be probably using a lot of the same soldier types across the board. You would have to just basically pick a type of unit each faction favored perhaps and lean them that way. You could probably find explanations as to why the Starks favor nonmounted troops, the Martells favor light cavalry not heavy horse since the desert would be a detriment to armoured horses and the like etc etc. If I can think of more ideas I will try to flesh them out here and you can use them or not as you see fit. In terms of the Kraken faction you could just make them raiders and not a playable faction or as seen in this mod Sword of Damocles - Invasion 1.011 Main Thread V4 Strategic Map RELEASED! have them come in as a huge invasion after a set amount of time. That mod deals with a lot more than that but if you take a look in the features you will see what I am talking about. There is also this mod Mount&Blade Unofficial File Repository - Downloads which you could perhaps steal some resources from. I know many folks have made flag packs and heralrdy packs for some of the factions in ASOIAF. You might be able to just contact them for some resources if you don't want to gank them. I will keep looking around and see if I can come up with some more ideas. |

+25 Internets | yeah, the medieval2 mod group has done a great job of creating the banners and stuff for their mod, so was going to drop a line to see if I could use it in this one, once it gets more off the ground. Adding new units would be nice but don't see it happening for a while, so was definitely just going to use existing unit trees, but probably simplify them. So rather then having 2 or 3 upgrade paths, they might only have 1, but I think they need at least 2 to create enough variety. |

+25 Internets | new version .11 Basically just added in the rivers as well as some height to the landmass. Sadly I did that in the wrong order so rivers follow the land, rather then being lowpoints. Doesn't matter since in the process of doing this I realised how wonky my map is. It should suffice for the time being, but will probably need to be recreated at some point. Added the mount area seperating Dorn as well, but wanted to see how well it works and try to understand mountains better before doing the rest, especially the Eyrie area which I want to make sure is done nice. Much as I would love to implement some of the features I've seen on other mods, I think that would be well beyond me for the foreseeable future. Besides which, as Lost Ranger pointed out, the basis game is pretty fun, and just switching the worlds would be enough to make it interesting to play for fans of the books. That said, what are people's opinion on where the focus should go. Accurate game world to play it, or accurate portrayal of the factions and their armies? ps, still need to work out how to do bridge, so expect lots of walking the long way around! |

+25 Internets | I figured I would set the companions to be the characters who have pov chapters in the book, though that might cut down on the number of lords that could be assigned to any particular faction. Also, working out the level / skills of the chars might be a tad tricky as well, not to mention their relationships with each other. |
