| Karate Kid RPG Project After much consideration, I've decided that my RPG is going to be loosely based on the events in the Karate Kid trilogy (Karate Kid 1, 2, and 3; excluding The Next Karate Kid). The protagonists will be Daniel LaRusso, Mr. Miyagi, and others; antagonists will include villains from the movies (Johnny, John Kreese, etc.) as well as new villains made specifically for the game. This is a strictly unofficial project and has no ties to the creators, producers and distributors of the actual Karate Kid movies. Certain elements, however, will be used (voice acting from the movies wherever possible, that amazing "You're the Best Around" song, etc.). I'm planning to do the worldbuilding, possibly(?) the coding, and the story scripting myself, but will need a lot of help with art. Specifically, I'm looking for character portraits and sprites for all of the principle characters, as well as sprites and portraits for new characters and generic characters. The game's storyline is going to go beyond the events in the film trilogy, but will follow their overall storyline, with three main "chapters": Chapter 1: Based on Karate Kid I (leading up to the final showdown with Johnny at the All-Valley Tournament) Chapter 2: Based on Karate Kid II (detailing the events immediately following Chapter 1 and leading up to Daniel's return from Okinawa) Chapter 3: Based on Karate Kid III and a bit beyond (detailing the events immediately following Chapter 2, etc.) This is a wacky idea, and I realize that. But I figured, what the heck, it could be really fun and also really funny.

| Using RPG Maker VX, yeah. Seriously looking for artists, though! So let me know if you've got artistic talent and can help work on sprites, animations, icons, character portraits, or any/all of the above. I will be posting some character lists later on, which represent my graphical needs for the majority of the game. The combat system will (hopefully) be classic FF style, turn-based, with a layout resembling the layout of FF6. There may or may not be magic in the game, but I'm thinking "magic" will mainly be different karate techniques based on four or five schools of karate. You will have to pick which school to specialize in, and each will have its benefits and drawbacks. More on that later. Daniel won't be the only playable character. For the sake of turning the movies into a decent RPG, you'll be able to group with characters like Ali (Elisabeth Shue in Karate Kid I), Miyagi, and others. Mr. Miyagi will be a total badass a la FuSoYa in FF4, and he will only join your group (or be playable by himself) for certain parts of the story. Having him in your group for the whole game would be way overpowered and also untrue to the story. I envision the storyline to be a "relaunch" of the movie plotlines, so the plots won't be complete word-for-word copies of the movie scripts. Obviously there will be some classic lines copied verbatim ("Sweep the leg," "Wax on, wax off," "Get him a body bag," the whole "There is no fear in this dojo" speech, etc.). |

| Is the third game going to be as huge a disapointment as the third movie was? II happened to be on the other day and I remembered how amazing I thought the 1st and 2nd were and how immensely dissapointed I was with how it ended. |

| It's not three separate games; it's one game with three or more major chapters in it. And it's going to have a lot of material not covered in the movies. I want the project to expand upon the movies and/or make some small narrative changes here and there. Gaming is a different medium than film, and obviously some artistic license will need to be taken with the films in order to translate them into a fun game. I may or may not use level caps for each "book" in the story. Something along the lines of Level 1-30 for Book I, Level 30-60 for Book II, Level 60-99 for Book III, or whatever. I haven't decided yet, but I definitely don't want people just powerleveling up in Book I and then clearing the rest of the game with ease. |
