Unreal3 Editor

Anyone here an advanced/expert user? I'm starting to learn the Gears of War editor.

I can't find where the skyboxes are located, I don't see them listed in any of the Generic tabs.

There is no actual skybox in UT3.

You need an additive mesh with surface properties.

You know that process?

EDIT-BTW you skipped out of that server before I could come back. booooo

2fort is one of my least favorites. Incidentally I'm recreating it in UT3 lol.

Cone CSG Add and then texture it...? maybe?

2fort is the shit you sissy.

Here is a really quick and to-the-point video tutorial on making a sky using the in-built meshes.

If you need something more custom, you will have to get your own sky maps and create a separate mesh in your modeler of choice.

One of my favorite things about the special editions of UT lately is that they have included video tutes on editing. Make track down one and see if it covers what you're after?

so I take it when designing multilevel maps, I should start from the bottom up? and leave a few squares of space between the floors instead of using the floor as the next floors' ceiling? having some problems with textures disappearing, i'm guessing it's because there's overlaps.

at work right now but one problem I was having was placing stairs

If I didn't align the top of the stairs under the connecting floor, the texture on the floor would disappear. I'm having a real bitch of a time getting stairs to work out right. They're too short. When I try to extend it, they start becoming too long, or the stairs are too steep to traverse, so I just end up putting ramps. Using the GoW editor so the PC can't jump anywhere.

I'm about finished with a test build of my mock 2fort map (without being mirrored). I'll post it up for critique but it's pretty basic, just walls/floors

Keep in mind the last unrealED I used was from unreal1. But I had the same problems back then. If anything is overlapping at all its generally bad if I can recall. Any time I had a brush overlapping it would cause the texture to either shatter or not display. If you gave me a wireview + texture view I could probably figure out the exact issue. But I'm just guessing atm Zarcath.

Alright I'm having a problem.

I placed a Terrain area and saved. Now whenever I try to edit the Terrain, save or build from this point on, the editor just crashes. I can't get rid of the Terrain I placed, trying to delete it crashes the editor.

I went out and bought UT3 and using the true UEd3 editor, instead of the GoW version. No crashes yet and I can jump now, yay!

Was even able to buy the LE version, so I have the DVD with the tutorials on it too.

nice! I haven't had time to watch the UT3 ones yet myself, but the 2004 ones were pretty awesome.

here's what I managed to put together today in a few hours. It's inspired by 2fort and incomplete, I haven't textured it or added power-ups. Haven't decided what I want to put in the back area either, I was thinking of putting an elevator of some sort that goes to a 3rd floor (just to experiment with movers). For my purposes I don't think I have to follow the 2fort floorplan to spec.

Uh I think you just need this file? unzip and put it into

fire up the editor and play build?

comments welcome. am I on the right track?

While I've never played Gears, I never could understand the no jump thing. Its the staple of fps gaming. Correct me if I'm wrong but you don't get any source code with the unreal engine to modify into a mmo right?

don't know anything about the source code, but I thought it might be fun to try and recreate some WoW raid instances complete with mob spawns. Co-op map to play with friends.
