+5 Internets | Old WR quests I was able to recover my Winter's Roar docs. Here is an example of a 3 part quest series I wrote that went in. It was intended to be longer but I wasn't able to go forward with my ideas due to conflicting lore.
I've attached the word doc for this quest and 2 other quests that went in. They're all newbie quests so they're short and aren't overly elaborate, but if you're going to be writing quests, pay attention to the dailogue.
Whenever you're writing dailogue, the dailogue should be based on the NPC's persona, you're either building one or using a pre-determined disposition. Guards are generally gruff no non-sense individuals. Dwarves I try give them an annoyed superior attitude. If they're rogues they talk "sneaky".
Also when you're putting together a series of quests, you want to make it so they're unable to leap-frog ahead by knowing the correct phrase, but also make it so if they fail they can start over from their last completed step as opposed to starting over from square 1. The easiest way to accomplish this is to have a turn-in item involved. Quote:

AC6 +2 Str +2 Sta +15hp +15mana Dialogue: Hail, Lieutenant Emorn
Lieutenant Emorn says @Welcome to Erudin traveler. I am a Defender of the Guard. I have an important [task] to attend to, so if you’d please move along@ What task
Lieutenant Emorn says @There is a group of bandits operating within these woods. Many travelers have fallen prey to their nimble fingers. At present, I’m unable to leave my post to investigate this matter. I filed a request to have the bandits removed from the area, but it was thrown out for lack of [evidence].@ What evidence
Lieutenant Emorn says @In all cases, the victims were unable to give an accurate description of the individuals. However, one detail has remained constant in all incidents. The bandits fancy sashes made of black silk. I just need to get my hands on a four of those [sashes] for my form to be approved.@ I will get the sashes
Lieutenant Emorn says @You will? Well, that’s awfully generous of you. Most of the thefts have occurred in the area West of here, so that may be the best place to start. Please do be careful, I have a strange feeling about this.@
Player heads to the west bandit hut, kills bandits for sashes, return 4 bandit sashes.
Lieutenant Emorn says @Excellent work! I knew you could do it. You’ve got the look of a Guardsman about you. For your selfless deeds, I will award you this. Now if I could just get rid of this [box].@ Player receives Defender’s Insignia. What Box?
Lieutenant Emorn says @Ah, well this box of fishing supplies arrived here by mistake. They’re addressed to Anval Falakor, he’s a fisherman along the shores, lives near the old pier. I’m expecting the arrival of a noblemans’ daughter and I can’t have this box cluttering the area up. Did you want to [deliver] it for me?@
I will deliver it
Lieutenant Emorn says @Haha, just my luck, you’re turning out to be a very useful. If you’ll excuse me, I need to check with my runners. We’ve been expecting the noblemans’ daughter to arrive for some time now, but she’s days overdue. Hopefully nothing serious has happened.@ Player receives fishing supplies and heads to the docks. Hail, Anval Falakor
Anval Falakor says, @Yikes! Don’t sneak up on me like that, it’s not good for me or the fish. I thought you were one of those [thugs] that were harassing me earlier.@ What thugs
Anval Falakor says, @A group of thugs came tromping down from the North, pushing me around and being extremely rude. Guard Llina managed to chase them off, but not before one of those thugs made off with my [special fishing grub].@ What special fishing grub
Anval Falakor says, @Well, it’s not exactly special, but extremely well built. I designed a fishing grub that will last twice as long as a normal grub. I was expecting some [fishing supplies] to arrive so I could make more of them.@ What fishing supplies
Anval Falakor says, @I ordered some more parts so I could produce more of my special fishing grubs. I expected them to arrive sooner, but with all the bandit activity lately, I guess it can’t be helped. Perhaps I should submit an inquiry with Lieutenant Emorn.@ Player gives Anval Falakor the fishing supplies
Anval Falakor says, @Oh you had my fishing supplies? Delivered to the Guards? I see. Well even with the supplies I can’t get to work on the grubs without the original design. A little too late since those [thugs] made off with the only one I had. I wish I could find some [help].@ I can help
Anval Falakor says, @I had a feeling you might say that. The last I saw of those thugs they were heading east, towards the bridge. If you hurry you might be able to catch up with them. Spawn thugs. Player heads east and across the bridge, kill thugs, loots grub and return it to Anval.
Anval Falakor says, @Thank you thank you! Here, it’s not much, but it’s all I can spare until I can produce my special grubs. Oh, before you go, you might want to talk with Guard Llina. I found a piece of torn silk and gave it to her to inspect. Player receives an old grub. Hail, Guard Llina
Guard Llina says, @Hmm…Hello there. I’m sorry I can’t talk right now, I’m sort of in a [dilemma].@ What dilemma
Guard Llina says, @Sorry friend, but it’s really Guard business only. If you can provide me with proof of your past services to the Guard, then I’d be able to tell you more.@ Player gives Guard Llina the Guard’s Insignia and receives it back.
Guard Llina says, @Oh, I see you’ve helped us before. Perhaps we could use your help again. Anval gave me this piece of torn silk that he fished up from the waters. It’s made of some expensive imported silk, the only people who could afford such a luxury is a noble. I should [take it back] for inspection but I can’t leave my post.@ I’ll take it back
Guard Llina says, @I don’t have much choice so I’ll have to agree. Please take this back to Lieutenant Emorn, he’ll know what to do.@ Player receives a piece of torn silk, heads back to erudin and hands the silk to Lieutenant Emorn.
Lieutenant Emorn says, @This is not good news. Since you’re here and time is of the essence, I’ll have to ask you to [help] me get to the bottom of this. I will help
Lieutenant Emorn says, @Let’s see…The river runs through from North to South. From Anval’s fishing spot, the silk must have drifted downstream. Investigate the river way and see what you can find out. Return to me anything you find.@ Player heads to top north of the river and encounters the prowlers. Defeats prowlers and loots a torn silk dress off prowler leader. Dying text from prowler will indicate that the “wench tried to escape down the river and drowned”. Player returns the torn dress to Lieutenant Emorn.
Lieutenant Emorn says, @This is a sad turn of events. I will have to make a full report of this to the Captain. Please accept this as a token of my gratitude. I hope the next time we meet the circumstances will not be as dreadful.@ Player receives a Defender’s Sash, which will be used for future quests. |
