| Visual Character Growth? way back in the old days, I loved eq1 when you got an increase in spell particle effects as you leveled and whatnot. I think this should be a common theme in a new mmo, tweaked to meet new age standards of course... like character changes/growth depending on race spell visuals depending on level etc anyone else agree with this or have any other suggestions?

| not sure what your trying to point out but if its that im trying to steal ideas from you youre wrong, im hardly claiming these to be my own, pretty sure i gave credit where credit is due (aka eq). anyway i was making a thread specifically for these kind of changes in gameplay, so yeah...

| Not at all :-) Nothing I have there is new except my Bone Master class, and even that isn't "new". Just was poking fun. Sorry.

| i used to swear my HE cleric was getting taller as I leveled in eq and thought it was the coolest thing. as lame as it is the game lost its first bit of luster when i realized i was the same size as every other HE char running around. |

| A common technique employed is how Armor looks plain until you max level then it becomes very cool. EQ employed this with the lvl 30 armor quests, but a better example would be WOW with plain graphics until SM then you start getting assorted cool pieces like Shoulders from ZF up until MC armor. The problem with this is of course expansions where you can make the next tier look crappy and repeat. |

+15 Internets | I know shadowbane increased the character size with strength, which I always thought was cool. I wish WoW and other MMOs had something similar to this as well. If you can take a trash mob and double his size, put a name on him and he's a super powerful raid mob, why am I the same size as I was in the newbie farm? |

| You could augment various characteristics based on stats, such as bigger muscles as you gain Strength, more elaborate/swifter combat animations/acrobatics with more Agility/Dexterity, and better particle effects with more Wisdom/Intelligence/Power. In this way you get the same identifying features of advanced players, yet not every level 50 player will be exactly the same; Barbarians stacking strength will be jacked yet perform simple maneuvers, while lithe Assassins will perform Jet Li-style attacks, and battle-hardened Rangers get a bit of both worlds. Just a thought. |

At least that's the way I was looking at it when I added it to my world.

Personally I'd rather not use levels again, but that makes this sort of feature all the more important. If you could judge a players power by their size, particles, whatever, solves one problem that non level games can have. | |

| How about absolutely no levels and all powers are gained through a sort of alternate advancement system so that no one has a number attached to him/her i wonder how that would work with mobs and the con system since theres no levels represented, would make adventuring a little more risky and exciting maybe Last edited by Lumie : 08-27-2007 at 06:45 AM. |

| More toward modern MMOs on larger scale than this, but, you know how many character creation screens are introducing an age-slider? The obvious change is to allow the player to determine their appearance at the start of the game, and that is there "finished" look (the look at maxed level, or at least beyond the stage of noobiness), however on the way there a complex morph from a more youthful appearance to the desired stage, while also intertwining physique based on attributes to allow the player to feel a growth with their hero. |
