| Shanghai/Hangzhou/Suzhou So I'm in China for the Summer doing an intensive language program in Beijing. In about three weeks we get a week off to travel wherever we wish. While not completely set in stone, I'm pretty certain I want to spend the week in Shanghai and, from there, make trips to both Hangzhou and Suzhou. I'm not at all the club-going, partying, raving, etc. type, so those suggestions will be wasted on me. I'm much more interested in sites and locations with historical significance and/or sheer beauty, and also random fun shit to do. Given this, has anyone been to any of the above cities and if so have any suggestions? If it matters, I'll be traveling with a group of guys (maybe 4-6), but while we may be staying in the same lodging, we probably won't be tied to each other during the days (and nights). |

| Haven't been to any(yet), but I heard Hangzhou is nice. Especially West Lake and all that. I'm actually waiting to hear about a scholarship to study there or in Chengdu for a year. I always just hit up travelwiki and it typically has a lot of information for larger cities. Hardcore partying isn't really my cup of tea either which is why Shanghai doesn't appeal as anything more than a weekend trip. I dunno, I don't really have anything helpful to say, but thought I just jump in anyways. BTW, what school are you at in Beijing?

| I went to Hangzhou about 2 weeks ago when I was in China. Its pretty nice, but like the rest of China it could be so much nicer without the pollution. If you want to see something really cool in Hangzhou, I highly recommend Song City. That was a lot of fun. Basically like the Ren Faires, but its dated back to the Song Dynasty and apparently its open year round. Attached: A Beautiful pic of Hangzhous air pollution. |

Right now I'm at Minzu University of China (中央民族大学) in Haidian, Beijing in an intensive language program administered by Columbia University. After this I'm off to Fengtai, Beijing (a district slightly to the south of where I am now) to teach English to 1st graders for a year. | |

| Cool, happy 1,000th. Doesn't Suzhou have some epic gardens?
