Blizzard Working on "Next-Gen MMO" - Kotaku
And
Blizzard Confirms New Product Next Month - Kotaku

Seems like Blizzard is up to something big. My gut is screaming Starcraft MMO.

Much more likely to be a starcraft RTS. there is no reason for them to put out a competing product to WoW right now. By releasing starcraft 2, then an expansion a year later they can reinvigorate the IPs fanbase without detracting from WoWs numbers. Then a year or two after that will come a starcraft MMO I believe.

If they are hiring the devs now, that means several years before release. Which means its still in higher ups decision making process. Hence announcing it now would be a bit earlier without at least a team starting work on it (as they are hiring Lead devs, not fleshing out a pre-formed team). So chances are the two news items are unrelated.

As I said elsewhere: Starcraft 2 first to revitalise the franchise & bring the game lore to an appropriate point, WoS (or Starcraft Galaxies, or whatever) four or five years down the line...as per WC3/WoW.

Blizzard makes a damn fine game. If their next project really is a Sci-Fi MMO and half as good as WoW, they'll have 90% of the market

We need a fourth thread to discuss this, as three just seems far too limited. This is the first one to end up in the mmo general, so I vote the next one to bring up possible Starcraft rumors go in the Screenshots forum.

judging by what positions they are trying to fill this next gen MMO is still in infancy stages so it's highly doubtful they would announce. It's much more likely to be starcraft 2 or diablo 3 given that the Invitational is to celebrate their warcraft diablo and starcraft franchises, it's also mostly oreinted at professional gaming and the competitive scenes for their respective games. Diablo just sort of gets lumped in there. Blizzcon is for WoW since it's such a horrible beast it gets its own convention.

If it's being announced in Korea, it's Starcraft. I'm going with Starcraft 2, the RTS.

QFT, I for one, cannot wait for mineral hacks. Map hackers were easy to defeat... Mineral hacks are just fucking evil.

Maybe they can make a Starcraft MMO and add some "Elite" (An old game from my Commodore 64) to it. That would be awesome.

Relax. It'll probably be an announcement for Northrend WoW expansion, given how 2.1 patch completes all the Outland contents.

I can see them putting out another MMO so they can push something like Sony's station pass. That way it wouldn't compete with WoW

So the real question is can "WoW" blizzard stand up to "RTS" blizzard? Surely you guys know that nearly none of the original employees remain, and that is a pretty big deal in the end of things - gamers are always quick to sling company names around, but it is very much so the people behind the names at the given time that matters.
