I think yesterdays stage was Important to LA in the sense that for the most part he isn't even being considered as a possible overall winnwer on his own team. There are at least 2 maybe 3 others that are younger and maybe faster such as Cotandor and Levi. He showed that experiance can be better than being young and fast. Lance quote from yesterday

“I have stayed out of the drama and polemics of the leadership. I have won the Tour seven times and I think I deserve some credit. Alberto is a good leader but that doesn’t mean you can’t take advantage of situations that come up."

“It doesn’t take a genius to know you have got to be there at the front when it is windy because anything can happen."

He is trying say why be set with only one person to win the tour when we should go with the flow and take what we are given.

BTW I predict that LA will be wearing yellow tomorrow. Will he keep it for the rest tour? Who knows.

Edit.

Well LA didnt get the yellow jersy but came damn close. Less than half a second behind

Go Norway! Hushovd showed his raw strength there. Now we need only hope cavendish doesn't make it through the mountains, cause he will win it all on the flats.

Heh, it was heartbreaking watching Millar get caught with only 1km left to go. The guy was in agony and the looming peloton looked like some monster chasing him down..

Given the way Astana are riding, Contador's strength and Armstrong's willingness to play defence for him yesterday it's hard to see how Contador could lose.

My money is on Astana sticking together and keeping their times close while not giving anything to their rivals. The final ITT and the penultimate stage on Mt. Ventoux will be a perfect chance to see who's the boss between Contador and Armstrong and if Brunyeel can keep them playing nice until that point and controlling their rivals, a 1-2 Astana Podium or even a 1-2-3 is very possible. I don't know if Contador is enough of a team player to do that, but it seems to me that they could very easily just work together to make sure no one from the other teams gets any time on them, and then shoot it out in the final TT and Mt. Ventoux to determine the order on the podium.

Pretty exciting first 9 Stages of the TDF and I think it's the most exciting first week I can remember in the short time I've been watching TDF.

I just got done watching Stage 9 and it was very fun race to watch and it's always very nice to see a break succeed. I was worried all the work they did was going to go away as it looked like the Peleton was going to catch them, but they held on and won.

Final Week starts tomorrow and so do the Mountains. It'll be interesting how it will all shake out. I felt bad for George not getting the yellow today as he won't see too many more chances for it. His family was there too yesterday so he really had to feel like shit.

Lance must have taken some performance enhancing substances. He is damn phenomenal even at his age... Personally, I don't think there's any way someone can dominate the sport like this. Of course, this sounds like a trolling post, but let's face it, LA is out of the ballpark.

He's far from dominating. There are 4 Astana cyclists in the top 8. Well there was 4 till Levi had to drop out. The real race doesn't start till tomorrow. It's been all about team(time trial) up till this point really and it has put Astanta right were they want to be. I'm pretty sure Lance can't compete with Contador in the mountains. He is the Cavendish of the Mountains. We will see this week if that holds true.

Right on the nail. Contador sure threw down the gauntlet today.

This post is about yesterday...

Does anyone else hate how George has been riding for in the tour for 14 years now and has always been the consummate teammate to Lance and a prominent worker for the Americans over the years and now he gets repaid with spite? I mean honestly what was Astana and Garmin's problem with George claiming yellow at the end of today's stage. Why would they push the pace like that at the end, especially Garmin which used to be US Postal which he and Lance were a part of. Everyone knows George isn't going to win the tour and he would admit as much. The only real reason they had for doing that was just to see that he doesn't get yellow out of spite for the fact he is riding for Columbia/Highroad now. Shame on the Americans for allowing Nocentini to keep yellow when all George wanted was to hold yellow for the second time in his life, even if for only a day.

You obviously don't realize the gap became wider with Astana doing the pace at the front of the Peleton. They were trying to get George the yellow but A2R decided to lead the Peleton and when they ran out of gas Garmin decided for whatever reason to dick George.

Contador just cannot be stopped. Lance really showed his age unfortunately, but he's still exceptional for a 37 year old rider. I can't imagine he will be able to compete on ventoux this year, which will be a real shame for him. That stage is going to be really incredible because Schleck will not make the same mistake of pausing and looking for his brother when Contador attacks.

Contadors acceleration is completely insane.

Astana really should have had no part of the blame and I lost some respect for George because of his remarks.

Lance and Co. lost 35 minutes in a previous Tour on the same stage to a breakaway and had a hell of a hard time getting the yellow jersey afterwards. They had two riders riding tempo on the front, increasing George's lead and letting it be a reasonable amount.

Garmin was just plain selfish and George overreacted. End of story.
