I'd honestly like to see how that dude at 2:01 got that chest without weights. Maybe he piled up some ghetto booty on his back and did push ups.

Here is a question about weightlifting that hasn't really been addressed here, but the other thread on barefoot running had me thinking. I have wanted to get some sort of weightlifting shoes for a while here, but I hate buying shoes over the internet and I don't want to spend 200 bucks on a pair of shoes preferably. While looking through that thread on barefoot running I was thinking that one of the lower scale Nike frees (for example these : NikeStore. Shop the Official Nike Store for Shoes, Clothing & Gear ) would be a good weightlifting shoe because of the minimalist sole and such. The pricing is also much more in my range as well. Thoughts?

Edit: Main reason is for my wife. She sort of has mutant feet and its really hard to fit shoes for her. Therefore buying remotely doesn't make sense. But if we can find one of these with low/minimal heel squishiness I think it would be a much better fit than her current crappy trainers.

Wear something comfortable that provides enough support so your footing never falters. Those shoes are prolly loose on the sides, and your feet will slide inside the shoe.

For most things, any shoe will do really. Whatever's comfortable. For squatting and deadlifting, I take my shoes off and just do it in socks.

Random question for those of you that lift as often as I do - long story short, I have a knee injury, apparently there is something under your kneecap, some fluid sac, that I raped pretty hard + tendons and the nerves there, so part of my leg is numb all the time, and the other part hurts like I'm being stabbed if I do anything harder than brush my hand against it (sucks hardcore, I can't even kneel on my damn matress) and the doctor is having me take 3 anti inflammatory pills twice a day, because apparently it takes like 8 weeks or so to go back to normal levels...pills = total of 6 @ 200mg per pill = 1200mg a day, which I am supposed to do for the next 3 weeks...

Do you guys think that will have any adverse effects when lifting? don't your muscles get inflammed while doing so, and generally it's a good thing? do you think this is going to handicap that growth? I could be misinformed but am genuinely curious.

Yes, anti-inflammitories are bad. But you have no other choice.

Yeah it's only 3 weeks, but I'd really see an ortho doctor. Taking pills is a bandaid, not a cure. Find out what happened.

Get that shit checked ASAP. Numbness in anything is a bad bad sign, and can mean nerve damage

Probably fucked up the meniscus or you got some synovial fluid leaking, lol.

For my question...I recently started working out and I have a list of stuff I can do for my chest and legs, but my back and arms I am completely oblivious about. I know a few things for the arms, but aside from the obvious, nope. And, the back, I have NO clue on what to do. Should I just pay for a trainer to show me some exercises?

biceps- barbell curls, and pick 2 other kinds of curls. it doesn't matter. dumbell curls, hammer curls are fine.

triceps- dips, skullcrushers, pushdowns

back- chins or pulldowns, barbell rows, one other kind of row. dumbell or cable, whatever.

Now go to the gym.

Amazon.com: Strength Training Anatomy (9780736041850): Frederic Delavier: Books

Pretty neat book full of fantastic illustrations of various exercises, divided up by what body parts they work etc. It's not exhaustive, but it's got a pretty good selection.

To add to this, deadlifts are really good for working out your lower back and your upper back (Keeping your back straight and your shoulders from falling off your body), and pullups are good for your biceps and your latissimus (sides of your torso)

Deadlifts for someone who doesn't even know what exercises are for your back, and therefore has no idea of form, etc., is not a good idea.
