Well I find out Friday if I need a fasciotomy on each leg, if I do, I will pretty much murder myself, and obviously have to bow out of the comp...so here is hoping for the best

I guess I'll be the fat guy of the round. I've lost about 30 lbs so far this year but I've got a long way to go. My goal is to get down to 200lbs and then start thinking about weight lifting. I really just want to be functionally fit. I just started riding again and ride 3 to 4 times a week for 1 to 3 hours. I also work out twice a week with a trainer group doing circuit body weight type exercises.

I've basically never "worked out." I've done physical stuff as a side effect of other hobbies/jobs, and that was years ago. Been sitting on my ass in front of a computer for ~6 years. Objective is to increase stamina, lose fat, and gain muscle.

Did my first solid 30 minutes of cardio ever today, on a rowing machine. I could barely stand afterwards and felt like I wanted to vomit. This is going to be fun!

Goals: I want to tone up, lose around 20 lbs to get back to my optimal weight of 180. My main areas of concern is my spare tire and my man tits. Hah. After losing the weight, I'd like to build some definition. Not sure what is actually possible in 3 months so I guess we'll see.

Haha, not directed at me but I did say it ... not sure how to take that!

Oh and if anyone is wondering what that thing is on side of my stomach. It's the delivery system for my insulin pump.

There is a lot more people posting this time. Figures I say it is going to bomb on the first page and dudes come out of the wood work. If anyone needs help just ask, unless you use the word tone. Then die.

edit: I had quesadillas and a turkey bacon and swiss at unos tonight. Yum.

Uno Chicago Grill: The best "fast food" restaurant ever. They have food which tastes good and simultaneously doesn't have nutrition facts like 2 mozzarella sticks = 900 calories.

Not to sound like an impatient jackass (I'm in this for the long-haul, I'm changing my lifestyle and not just trying to get toned) but I was curious what the average life-cycle of muscle gain is. How long does it take before you notice substantial results if you're serious with it?

I could use some help. I'm going to do both weight training and cardio. My understanding is while at some point you reach a plateau and need to pick Bulk or Cut, but that only applies if you've already developed your body a bit, right?

If that is true, how long should hitting that plateau take if I'm doing 30min of cardio (hopefully evolving into HIIT cardio... I sort of did this today, 30 seconds of 800+ caloric burn, followed by a minute of ~500)? My plan was one week of rowing, one week of swimming, and going back and forth. For weight training I'm not sure if I should do it on the same days as cardio, or opposite days, and which would I do first? I'm just using lifting machines. The place I signed up offers a free visit with a personal trainer and they go through and start a program for you on each machine, then you just enter your code and it reminds you of your suggested weight/reps/etc.

Does doing it at the same time of day matter at all? Or a particular point your waking/sleeping cycle that is better? My schedule is full of nothing atm after the move, so I can exercise whenever.

I'm trying to do something like eat a banana right before I do cardio. Sometime in the next couple weeks I'm going to get a blender and start making protein shakes for just after I do lifting. Other then the occasional fast food my diet has always been pretty healthy, so I wasn't planning on changing it much aside from that.

Fuck me, that started out as ONE question.

I just read though this (Really long) I recommend any newbie or semi experienced person to read though it. Even if not for the workout itself, they make a lot of good points and a newbie can learn a lot from the FAQs. If I was a complete newbie I would probably do the program myself, I'm actually more inclined to do my squats now after reading though it.

Today: Morning did 30 mins on the bike with pretty high resistance, 20 mins of abs. Afternoon did my chest and tris. Maxed 100kgs 4 reps (220lbs on bench) after doing 2 sets at 180lbs and 200lbs. Not my personal best but I was going for reps not max. Legs again tomorrow. Did them 4 days ago, were sore as crazy for the past three days finally can walk down the stairs again and dont die trying to get off the toilet.

PS. Try using a chinese "squat toilet " when you have DOMS Delayed onset muscle soreness - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia in your legs. Its not a pretty sight

Sorry I'm late. I'd like to get involved. Sorry about the shitty picture; it's taken from my crappy blackberry. I'll get some from digital camera next time.

My workouts are probably very different to most here. I don't lift any weights because I've never been desperately into the aesthetic thing. I train for triathlon (notice my huge lack of cycling at the moment..) primarily so my typical week looks like this:

Mon: 10km 6mile run @ 45mins
Tue: Masters Swimming (usually 3800m session in total) @ 1hr 45mins
Wed: Track run, 6km (12.5 laps) speed work at athletics club.
Thu: Training swim (1600m) @ 25mins-30mins
Fri: LSD Run. Usually around 10miles @ however long it takes at 155bpm hr
Sat: Rest or Run.
Sun: Rest or Run

I've been doing this since around July 08. Although recently had 8 weeks off while I was backpacking Asia/Europe. Pic is today after a 40min run, the weather has been fucked in England so it's making long runs really hard (it's about 30c here at the moment). I track all my runs using a Garmin FR 405. Last month I ran 155km, about 100miles.

I usually do 2 races a month in season. Mostly straight endurance runs (10km/10miles and half marathons).

Other pic is reference from me in September 08, how badly I had let myself slip..

Edit- I guess my bodyfat is about 18% roughly. I'm 6'4 @ 203lbs. Working on getting to about 190.

LSD run sounds like mad fun, I would get lost or attacked by mushroom men.

30c? Whats wrong with that, its perfect weather! Never heard anyone say 30c is fucked?
