| They should just call the game when Mo comes out of those gates to 'Enter Sandman'. Matsui was incredible and Pettitte gave much more than I thought he would. Hail to the most successful franchise in all sports. |

| What's really going to piss off the hater is when they realize that half this team is home grown and the current farm system is above average. For all the crap they get for throwing down cash for CC, AJ, Arod, and Tex, they at least pay their home grown stars so they don't leave like Jeter, Mo and Rivera. They play it smart and let others like Mendoza to walk. The one that got away (Petitte) left to play in his hometown. Ok so he got lowballed...ironic when you consider they were trying to not pay the man for a #2 starter and playoff performer but sucked up contracts like Kevin Brown and Carl Pavano. But they learned. Nady and Wang return from injury next year. Austin Jackson is waiting in the minors. Mekly and Gardner suffice for a platoon. Joba's workload will increase. Hughes, Robertson, Aceves (more of that home grown lovin) along with Marte (2 more years) will anchor the bullpen. Other than a corner outfielder and a starter, this team doesn't have to dip into free agency. Why? because for once since the late 90s, they have younger players they developed to step in.

| There's no arguing the big contracts. It doesn't matter how cogent a position you can make, no one is going to buy it. The revenue they bring in allows them to sign those players. They spend the cash on players that also want to be Yankees. This team is banking on 27 championships. If you go back to the Ruth/Gehrig days and that duos first championship in 1927, thats 82 years of developing a team's history. The "unfairness" really has to do with the fact they play in New York and no other American sports franchise has that history. The only two other franchises that could compete in that realm are the Red Sox and Dodgers. A tier below would be the Phillies, Cardinals, and Giants. The Red Sox in Boston and the Dodgers in LA occupy two huge markets. The knock against the Dodgers in this regard of course they moved to LA in the 50s. Even though they had championships in Brooklyn, most of that goodwill evaporated. The Yankees if anything exploit the New York market with its TV deal and astronomical ticket prices. It's a home field advantage (revenue-wise) that can't be matched. Is that fair? No. Hell no. But what the fuck are they suppose to do about it? Give money to Kansas City, Pittsburgh, and Miami (Florida) so they can pocket it? Oh they do that already. This advantage occurs in other leagues to lesser degrees. The Dallas Cowboys. The LA Lakers. The Detroit Red Wings. There is so much built up history of winning that revenue streams are just huge compared to everyone else. Fuck Dan Synder has been milking the loyal fans for 10 years now with the highest tickets in the game, 50 bucks for parking, etc by thinking the fans will never lose faith and love the team forever. Hate the fact the Yankees exploit their situation more than anything. They keep selling it and the fans keep buying it. And as long as the fans keep shelling out cash, they'll turn that money over to paying players. Fuck, I rather them do that than hearing about Don Sterling-esque stories of them putting out a 50 million dollar team and pocketing 150 million every year.

| If the Yankees were owned by a pennypincher like Donald Sterling and the Pirates had been allowed to be purchased by Mark Cuban no one would give a shit about 27 titles, players would sign with the Pirates and the Yankees would be just another irrelevant team. Baseball is no more legitimate as a sport than boxing at this point. I grew up with baseball, I loved it. One of my fondest memories is Francisco Cabrera and Sid Bream's slide. But it's an irrelevance at this point, far far down the list behind thhe NFL, NBA, college basketball and football, and MMA. You can ignore the issues and enjoy it in short doses, but if you really look at baseball it's just a hollow, rotting corpse of what was America's pastime.

+1 Internets | Revenue sharing in MLB is broken. Maybe there is some fine print that I have never heard about, but they need to amend the system. What they need to do is something to this effect... If a team like the Pirates is eligible for 30 million in revenue sharing, they must not only invest all $30 million of the money into player contacts, but also put up the same amount of money from their own pocket as well. So, at a minimum, they would have a $60 million roster, 50% funded by themselves and 50% funded by revenue sharing. If they only want to spend $10 Million of their own money on players, they only qualify for a matching $10 Million in revenue sharing dollars. Either do something like that to prevent the douche fuck owners from pocketing the money or institute a salary cap and be done with it. |
