The Phillies have the bats for the Yankees. I wish they had really gone all out and traded Happ and Draybek for Halladay in addition to Lee. This series would be over. If the Phillies want to win game 6, they should start Happ, or at least have Pedro on a 3 run/6 inning leash with Happ on call. I wish Manuel would leave Park in for more than an inning. He's good for 2-3, and he's the best reliever they have. And if they somehow make it to game 7, Hamels is going to have to redeem himself, and I would have Lee ready to pitch. Fuck rest. They've got triage pitching to do.

The other thing about Happ is that he's capable of pitching complete games... Last edited by tjac; 11-02-2009 at 09:57 PM..

| Not a huge suprise that the Yankees lost game 5. Pretty frustrating in that they scored enough runs in a game Lee started that they could have won the game, but Burnett was pretty awful. |

+5 Internets | There was a reason that the Jays didn't want to trade Halladay for Happ. Maybe the Phillies realize it too. (Happ is an average pitcher but in the NL he looks much better than he would facing AL East lineups often) The Phillies didn't want to part with any of their top 3 prospects so they get no Halladay. JP is gone now, but thankfully he didn't let them rip him off like they did Cleveland. |

the Phillies just refused to put him in a package for Halladay. What tjac said was if they gave up Drabek(their top pitching prospect) and Happ for Halladay AFTER the Lee trade, they'd have both Lee and Halladay. He isn't pitching because he started his career for us in the bullpen, so he has done it before. Blanton pitched in relief against Colorado and hasn't done well, and neither has Happ really, but Happ has filled that role in the past. Obviously Lee is #1, they went with Pedro because of the big stage and because they paid him to come here and start, Blanton isn't a reliever, and Cole is the fucking reigning World Series MVP who can't pitch worth a damn lately(read: this year) I really think Cole may not get a start in 6 or 7. They'll use Happ tomorrow and Pedro in 7 if it goes that far, or vice versa, but the extra rest for Pedro may be beneficial. Last edited by arkk123; 11-03-2009 at 12:25 PM..

+5 Internets | Yeah he did go 12-4. In the NL East. Keith Law I think made a post on his blog about it. Said that AL East scouts weren't very impressed with Happ and didn't think he would be any better than a 5th starter in the division. Blue Jays already have tons of 4th and 5th starters, but if you're giving up Roy you at least need a bonafide number 2 in return. From what I read about the trade discussions, the Jays were looking for Drabek plus one of the two OFs in the system. But the Phillies kept trying to throw in Happ or Carrasco instead. They just really didn't want to trade Drabek, and kept trying to offer Happ instead. The guy like you said was 12-4, but they're basically not pitching him at all which seems odd given that. Pedro is starting game 6 from what I've read btw. |

Happ pitched against the Yankees this year and did well. I told you why he isn't/wasn't starting. How does he fit in the rotation with the 4 other pitchers mentioned? They all have priority over him and there is no where to put him.

+5 Internets | Pitching your first time around in the majors tends to favor the pitchers. On the second time the hitters tend to catch up pretty well. This happened with at least 3 different first year Blue Jays starters this year (Cecil, Romero, Rzepcynski). I'm just saying if he really is good, than he should be in there instead of Blanton and maybe even Pedro. Blanton has pitched relief before and could fill in fine as a long reliever, which seems a much better proposition against the Yankees. |

Sources: Philadelphia Phillies won't meet Toronto Blue Jays' demands for Roy Halladay - ESPN The Phillies could have pretty easily had Halladay if they had only agreed, and they'd have been in the playoffs with Halladay, Lee, Hamels, Blanton, and Martinez. i don't think it ever occurred to them that they could have both Halladay and Lee -- Lee was always the backup plan. | Fuck baseball and buying championships. Seriously. So tired of it. If the NFL gets rid of its competitive balances I might stop following sports all together.
