Swing and a miss. The correct answer is 1. USC had the head-to-head tie breaker in 2006 with Cal, and Cal is on a 6 year losing streak to USC with no end in sight. It isn't competitive. Not at all.

Even using your expanded time line that predates Pete Carroll, the teams you listed (Oregon and Cal) only have one outright pac-10 championship combined. ESPN doesn't show schedule results going back to 2000, but I'm pretty sure Washington owned the head-to-head that year.

So, congrats. If you manipulate the question in just the right way, the two teams you listed as annual competitors for the pac10 title have a combined 1 title over 12 years. I admit, your dumbfuck, ignorant pack10 fanboying response did not disappoint.

And again, I ask...where are you going with this? Or were you just posting to hate on the Pac-10, like usual? And what's the problem with shared titles? It happens when you don't have a championship game. And I already said that Cal never really got there.

I think Boise State would go into the Pac 10 and instantly challenge for a title and make a lot of noise. See, I never said Boise State wasnt any good, just that the teams they play are. Chris Petersons a hell of a coach imo.

What makes a good bowl game is not that one team is better than the opponent. But rather how close are they to each other in terms of performance. When one team has a clear advantage over the other the game turns out to be a loop sided win.

Going back to the Boise state OK game it was indeed a great game, not because Boise was good, but because they were evenly match with Oklahoma.

You can put two crappy teams play each other and it will look a close game all the way to end because both team will perform similar.
There is no way that the 2006 Boise state would have beaten Florida nor OSU that year. They were just barely better than OK, a 11-3 team that year.

While bowls are not perfect, the reality of CFB is that the conferences/teams are not evenly distributed in terms of proficiency. Having a system entirely decided by wining-losing record is ridiculous. Also the short lenght of the season does not allows for too many OOC games.

In the NFL teams play more games in general and also more OOC games than in conference games, Allowing for better overall picture as who is better overall. College football if they do that then the BCS will look a lot better since there will be more data from where to pull information from.

Also remember that from every Cinderella game of Boise State winning against OK on overtime, there is also Hawaii losing to Georgia( in an embarrassing matter.

They couldn't do it regularly, which is the whole point of this tangent. Hell, they've only played one Pac-10 team at most in a year, usually early in the year. They've done pretty well against the Oregon schools, but they also lost to a 4-win Washington team two years ago. They're too inconsistent even in limited games against the conference to let me believe they'd compete for a championship regularly. They'd probably be in the top half of the conference, but I don't think they're on the level of USC, etc.

That Hawaii BCS game was the worst bowl game I have ever seen. So much so, that by the 2nd Quarter I was just hoping Hawaii would throw in the white towel. UGA would have beaten them by 60 if Richt had wanted to be an asshole. I was waiting for Mick from Rocky to throw the towel at Colt Brennan that game, yelling STAY DOWN KID.

Your criteria for Boise State's admission to the Pac-10 was their competitiveness within the conference specifically in regards to competing for the conference championship.

By your standards, none of the teams in the pac-10 (sans USC) belong in the pac-10. Try to keep up, Susan.

Actually, the main reasons they won't be joining the Pac-10 are the academic and monetary reasons, which I already mentioned (and you conveniently ignored). I've already proven that USC has competition, but you refuse to accept it based on some semantic BS. Regardless, USC likely won't win the conference this year. That means they have competition this year. Which makes the quoted post kind of senseless, since we're discussing putting them in the conference this season and into the future.

Edit: I assume you'd be open to admitting Utah into the SEC then?

How much money did you lose yesterday, Ham?
What's worse is I didn't even believe that when I typed it. I just have this terrible inability to go with the public, and everyone loved Oregon.

Didn't lose anything on USC, Georgia ruined that teaser many hours before that

Oregon State would have won the conference title last year if Oregon hadn't beat the crap out of them in the last week of the season on their turf. That was fun. Nice to cost them a rose bowl berth.

USC is just a really good team over the last 6-7 years. But good thing you guys in the SEC should be able to say the same thing about Meyer and Florida in about 3-4 years. It's just what happens when a team gets really dominant in conference like that.

Saw these stats this morning and I found it kind of interesting. I know some of your guys teams are on the list. Shamelessly taken from the Ohio State forums.

The 100 win club as the decade comes to a close.
Three teams are in...several others are close, including the Buckeyes:

Already in:
Oklahoma 107
Boise State 106
Texas 105

Can make it:
USC 99 (need one more win with four regular season games and a bowl game remaining; lock)
Ohio State 98 (need two wins out of Penn State, Iowa, UM, bowl; very good shot)
LSU 97 (need three wins out of Bama, LaTech, Ole Miss, Arkansas, Bowl, maybe SECCG - good shot)
Florida 95 (need five wins out of Vandy, USCe, FIU, FSU, SECCG, Bowl; decent shot)

Mathematically possible, but very unlikely:
VT 94 (need six wins, only four regular season games remain, need GT to melt down so they can reach ACCCG plus bowl to get the six games)

Just outside, can't make it:
UGA 94 (need six wins, only four regular season games plus bowl remaining)

__________________________________________________ ________________________

For a little perspective, here's what the numbers look like if you only count wins over BCS AQ teams:

USC 89
OK 84
Texas 78
UGA 75 (that's a little bit of a suprise)
Ohio State 74
UF 73
LSU 70
FSU 69
VT 68
Miami 68
Boise 6

For even more perspective, here's some other mid-majors this decade: Utah 17, Fresno 14, Navy 14, TCU 14, BYU 12, BGSU 10, ECU 9, Toledo 9, Louisville (while still in CUSA) 9, Hawaii 8, Southern Miss 7, Colorado State 6, Houston 6. It's tough to argue with those that criticise Boise's scheduling...

So you mean people playing in BCS conferences play more BCS conference teams? Fucking shocking!
