+3 Internets | MLB Offseason So now that the World Series is over, the real fun can begin. Didn't take long for teams to become active as just a day into the off season the Marlins have dealt Ryan Howard Lite (Mike Jacobs) to KC for some much needed bullpen help in Leo Nunez. Story: ESPN - Florida Marlins trade Mike Jacobs to Kansas City Royals for Leo Nunez |

| I'm curious as to what the Mariners will do this offseason. Many of the "experts" last year predicted they'd make the playoffs. Instead, they became the first team with a $100 million payroll to lose 100 games. The M's finally go into an offseason without that fucking cancer Bill Bavasi calling the shots, but shitty contracts he signed remain. They do have some good pieces to work with, though. I'm optimistic that the new GM Jack Zduriencik could make something happen. He's highly regarded in baseball circles and brought over some of his scouting and player development staff from the Brewers. Longer term he should be able to help undo some of the damage done by Bavasi, but as for what will happen this year who knows.

| Someone explain this to me. A) We know Manny can rake. No one is disputing this. B) Fielding and speed have increased in emphasis over the last half decade, with teams starting to shy away from the Moneyball aspects of the late 90s and early 2000s. C) The current high water mark is 25 million per year for A-Rod, the elite player of his era, who is still relatively young and is potent in all facets of the game(aside from the mental aspect perhaps). D) The Dodgers, armed with all this knowledge, are willing to pay a similar amount to a 35 year old who plays terrible defense, can't run, is eccentric and tries only when he feels like it, and who is at the historical point in which sluggers start to decline. They aren't even in a league where he can DH!!! How does that make any sense at all?

Dude had an amazing 2 months with the Dodgers. Someone is going to pay him that much money and the Dodgers are in position to sign a few big players are they are getting rid of at least 3 big contracts that i know of. Penny, Kent and Garcia Parra. They may even get rid of Juan Pierre's. Dodgers have money to spend no doubt.
