So maybe in your infinite wisdom you can explain why a country would risk their reputation, their gold medals and the future career of a tween if wasn't advantageous to do so? Obviously if they are doing it they are doing it for a reason... and it isn't to make it easier for others to win.

Clearly our secret weapon should be 70 year old men and women. They must defeat the young whipper snappers! | |

Conjecture: The Chinese took these risks because these little gymnasts were the only shot they had of winning a gold, not because of their age, but because of the talent lottery. If they could have magically turned them 16, I'm sure they would have. It was a pretty stupid thing to do on the part of China I'll agree. Don't ask me what they were thinking. I don't know.

+46 Internets | If it's not an advantage why have the found underage kids in other events? Male gymnastics, track and field, and swimming to be precise.

+3 Internets | Those secret documents all list date of birth as Jan 1st whatever year. I doubt those ages are accurate on those registration either, they just put something down to enter the competition. (Kind of like people signing with an X) I assume that a couple of those girls were sub 16, but I don't think the 'hacker' has actually found any conclusive evidence of anything.

| Pfft. Who cares about proof? Take a look at the girl. She doesn't have anything close to resembling a tit. I don't know about you guys, but when I was that age ever girl I ever laid eyes on that was 16 *at least* had some mosquito bites. Oh well, maybe i'm not that well versed on Chinese physiology. Still...the proof, as they say, is in the pudding.

| Doubt anything will come of this. They are pretty much taking the standpoint of looking at a passport and accepting it at face value. But oh, those are 'official' Chinese government issue passports. There is no way they could be falsified. Why would they do that? Like I said in a post somewhere else, no one has the balls to push the issue far enough at the risk of damaging 'relations' between the countries. The primary beneficiary of an overturning would be the U.S. so the onus is us to pursue it to the end and we just won't.

| The reason why this is bad is because as you grow older, your bones begin to fuse together, thus limiting some flexibility. Now, you can fight this by pushing yourself (or being pushed) to stretch constantly. Other than that, I really see no advantage. :P

| Well, isn't it an arbitrary rule anyway? Shouldn't the olympics be about who is the best at something? If a 14 year old is better at gymnastics than a 16 year old why the fuck are we watching 16 year olds? I mean besides the: |

The basic premise is that for female gymnasts, younger undeveloped bodies have a better center of gravity and can spin faster (simple physics). So, the younger gymnasts do have an advantage, and the documentary also did a study on average age of female gymnasts in in the Olympics and it was rare to have 21+ year old female gymnasts. About the age rule, it's because of safety. Basically injuries at 14 are more likely to have a long-term effect. People ask, "Well aren't these 14 year olds competing at the junior and amateur levels anyways?" The documentary explained that yes, they are competing at these junior levels however the difficulty rankings of their routines to place in the top 3 are drastically easier compared to the difficulty rankings of routines in the Olympics. To compete in the Olympics, these 14 year olds would have to do 6.0+ difficulty ranking routines which are prone to injury and long-term bodily harm in both practice and competition on a 14 year old body. That's why the age limit rule was set to begin with. EDIT:: For males, you see older athletes because a lot of their routines require greater strength as well. However, if you noticed a few of the Gold Medalists, the athletes had small bodies and were well known to be amazing "spinners" and flippers, which adds a lot of difficulty points to routines.

Do I have to spell out everything? Shawn Johnson and Nastia are better gymnasts now than when they were 14 and the under-aged Chinese girls will most likely be as well. As far as this center of balance and height crap, Shawn Johnson is the same height as the Chinese girls. Oh look, in two sentences I just took down all these shitty unfair competition arguments coming from the mouths of retards. Edit: I don't want to seem like I'm coming down on you Necrolyte. You wrote a reasonable post. It's directed toward the dipshits who are giving me -internets and don't know basic set theory: that A and B being grouped doesn't necessarily imply causality.
