I'm interested to see if Beijing is going to get embarrassed by all the pollution. I know in the cycling they had people puking all over the place, and runners were blowing their noses in the distance runs and having nothing but pure black snot coming out of their noses. There was an article on it somewhere, I'll see if I can find it.

Wiki knows everything!

Quote:
Air pollution levels on an average day in Beijing are nearly five times above World Health Organization standards for safety.[36] China's extremely inefficient use of coal - the country's main source of energy - results in much of the pollution. Despite promises to stage a green 2008 Summer Olympics, Bejing has had persistent air pollution - thus city officials are planning to reduce its motor traffic by half during the Games to improve air quality.[37] In February 2008, the Chinese government announced that it would close 144 gas stations in Beijing, which amounts to about 10% of such stations in the city, to improve air quality in preparation for the Olympics.[38]

Since 2001, when Beijing won the right to hold the Olympics, nearly $17 billion has been spent to clean the air, but the city remains under smoggy conditions on many days and athletes frequently complain about the air quality.[39]

Love the new avatar PB.

I never had a problem there, however, it was always beautiful and shiny the days I was there. The city itself is much more clean now than a lot of US cities I have visited. (Basically places where if you cannot speak Chinese you go)

Womens Gymnastics FTW. I used to watch it in the summers as a kid with my grandmother. RIP Grams.

to show off the younger players and get them international experiance they might normally get the chance to have. besides there are plenty of U-23 talents out there...

~slight edit: last i heard the NBA and the players associated with it didn't seem to care about the olympics, i remember sportscenter talking about "winning the gold is nothing compared to winning the nba championship" which stunned the hell outta me because i think representing ones country would be far better than one's team, that and well there was the good ol mid 90s US dream team that was pretty much unbeatable

Some of you might not care (okay, most of you) but the US has really good chances for several medals in fencing.

We have the defending world champion and defending Olympic gold medalist in women's saber, and some serious contenders in foil and epee events as well.

FIFA got a lot of power and don't want the Olympics to screw their own tournaments. So only people that haven't played in the world cup is allowed to play in the Olympics and as long as they are under 23.
That's basically the reason why Olympics football suck 8)

I would be interested in them if I could see the damn competitions. Alas, the dutch are even worse than americans when it comes to showing only events that they can medal in.

The BBC isn't much better.

So, unless either of those countries have a shot, I'm stuck watching shit like dressage.

NBC shows alot of events now. All their sister channels will be showing the Olympics pretty much non-stop. I know during the winter games I was able to record curling albeit during the overnight hours like at 3am. I'm one of the few people that likes to watch curling and some of the women teams aren't too bad looking.

I am really hoping to catch archery, judo, fencing, ping pong, among others.

At least one member of the US curling team is from my hometown. They use the curling club in town while they're there.

If you're in the US, you'll see some fencing on NBC.

It'll be mostly women's saber since that's where the best medal chances for the US are, but they'll add some of the other weapons for "flavor".

They're already doing a lot of coverage on their site. It doesn't hurt that our top three fencers are all photogenic girls in their late teens/early 20s.

Will Judo be broadcast on NBC?
