| Yes. Still #1. But his age is starting to show. But as that other guy said, France has a new batch of young attackers with a lot of talent. Henry won't have to play many games from start to finish. |

| The French just announced their squad, pretty strong team with good experience spread out around. No Mexes or Trezeguet though which is a surprise. Group C is just such a loaded group. A pity one of Italy, France or Holland will have to go out before the knockout rounds. |

+30 Internets | My money is on Germany. Switzerland and Austria shouldn't be underestimated this time - all their group games are home games, so maybe we get to profit from some of that home advantage. Austria has a tough group, but I think #2 behind Germany might be something they could reach. Switzerland got way luckier - I think we can expect at least #2 behind Portugal, possibly even win the group. Turkey is going to get another ass kicking, but beyond that it's hard to tell. I just hope both hosts get past the group stage, it'd be lame to be out so early. It'd be a dream come true for Switzerland to make the semi-finals... dare I hope? Will have to be re-evaluated after the opening game, we'll see if they can translate the home advantage. |

| Yeah unfortunately I don't think Switzerland or Austria is good enough to give the other nations a run for the money. Switzerland can make it past the playoff, but if so they'll get kicked out the game after I think, Austria on the other hand probably won't get a single point. Hopefully I'm wrong though, would be god damn awesome if either Switzerland or Austria made it to quarter-semi finals 8) |

+11 Internets | I can see Austria making a good run, because they seem to have reach their top form for the Euro. Now it's true that their top form is not very impressive, but still...

Not sure why Mexes though...isn't he the guy that plays/played for Inter? A defender? Think I have seen him once or twice...don't watch much Serie A because its boring. Haven't looked at squads yet...hope Del Piero plays. From the few Juve matches I saw last season he looks like the guy he was back in the '98 WC. | |

+30 Internets | Heh, a physics professor that has been explaining some of the physics behind football set up a simulation as to what country has the best chances. He used the average number of goals scored in the qualifications for teams other than Austria and Switzerland (no qualifier games) and used the average number of goals scored in similar competitions for those two teams. Then he ran it a million times. The outcome? Germany is the clear favorite, with a 25% chance of winning. Second? Switzerland with 12%... The model seemed to break down when he used historic data back to the 1950s and also tried to model the boost a team receives by being the host. Switzerland ended with 70% chances of winning ![]() |

+2 Internets | Wow some deep physics if all he did was look at euro2008.uefa.com - Tournament top scorer list for the Qualification round. Remember Germany beat San Marino 13-0?

| Switzerland is going to win the first game against the Czechs, as rosicky isn't playing and the parts of the team I knowreally showed very poor performance in the last Bundesliga season. Koller can't score anymore, Galasek is also pretty meh. Jarolim is playing quite differently than he is expected to play now. Portugal will win against Turkey as well. |
