England V USA International Friendly 28/05 or 05/28 for Americans!

Not seen a thread here yet, thought it was quite an interesting game seeing as how im quite keen on the USA getting a more active role in the footballing world scene.

Any predictions for score? Lets just hope its an interesting game!

Is there much interest/talk at all of this in the states or are people still not interested in the sport at all?

Football (soccer) is the red headed step child of sports in the US. There is virtually no promotion of it other than specific channels (Fox Soccer channel, Univision). It will never be big here until they can find a way to change the rules to allow time outs (football, basketball) so the advertisers can throw money at the sport. It's not even being shown on a standard cable station for fuck's sake. Espn Classic... fuck that.

Anyway, England 2-0. The US is incapable of keeping up with the speed of English play. The English players are also trying to forge a spot for themselves on Capello's World Cup side so I don't expect them to take this game lightly.

The reason it's not popular in the states is because most media journalist refuse to even recognize it. Regardless, I'm going to the USA/Argentina game at Giant stadium (friend of mine got great tickets).

Most of the US fan section seats are available, but it's not because people don't care. Giant stadium has the most outrageous ticket prices in the fucking country for quality of seating. It's like 50 bucks for upper nosebleed seats. Those seats are AWFUL. We've got field level seats in the US Support section. I'm gonna have an awesome fucking time.

Also 2-1 England. I think the US scores a goal.

Don't forget full body armour and padding for the delicate american physique! Oh and to stop the game everytime someone falls over

Me not watching soccer has nothing to do with media. I've tried to watch soccer. It bores me out of my fucking mind. If i'm gonna watch a sport I don't care about then it's gonna be women's volleyball.

You don't have to be a fat negro to be a tough sport.

You want to know why soccer will never take hold in America?

Because this bullshit just isn't tolerated here:

Way to pick some fucking hilarious shit that IMO is no where near indicative of the sport as a whole. The problem with watching it on TV is that it can get boring due to the fact that the camera only follows the ball and you miss a lot of the action (runs, pass set ups etc). Best games I've ever seen on TV have all been Premier League.

The premiership is without question the best league to watch on television. La Liga is pretty solid too. Italian leagues are fucking terrible. Flopping, time wasting. God it's awful.

American Football won't catch on in Europe. They showed that game they had in London in a pub I was in, and everyone just laughed for 2 minutes then looked away.
It's a sport built around men in armoured suits falling over!? Go play some Rugby you wimps!

I dunno. I was at that game and it was INCREDIBLE how many Europeans were there with various football jerseys and other gear, and how into it they were getting. The fans were practically identical to those in America imo.

I'd say the Europeans at that game were way more into football than any Americans I've seen into soccer.

You serious?

All I saw was:
1. Charge for 5 seconds.
2. Omg everyone has fallen/been pushed over! Stop the game for 20 seconds while we check they haven't bruised through that armour plating!
3. Repeat.

Compare to Rugby where they get the fuck back up and only pass the ball when they have 5 guys on them. In cloth not plate!
I know certain Football players can occasionally roll around and whine for a penalty, but that's the exeption... the whole game isn't built around it!
I will never understand America and it's crazy sports, well at least you have Canada and Japan with you! I know which kind of Football the other 95% of the planet plays

Anyway I hope the USA wins 4-0. The only thing I hate more than Football is people calling it Soccer!
