| What the NHL has tried to aviod is making the referees obsolete and interupting the flow of the game. They made this rule a partial judgement call because there are many times over the last few years and ESPECIALLY when the crease rule was in it's hardline nazi form, that games could be stopped for 5+ minutes reviewing and reviewing and reviewing. Replay is a great tool, but it shouldn't always be used to the detriment of the flow of the game. The NHL survived a great number of years before instant replay and it still was a great game. Referees still make mistakes but they also understand the game. I honestly believe this was a make up call from earlier in the series when the Red Wings scored with Holmstrom sitting on Turco. With replay dictating every goal, this could not have been done. The same thing happens with penalties for the most part, refs try to even things out. I remember game 6 of the Stars/Sharks series. IN the middle of the 3rd OT, the Sharks were given a power play, which they killed off. I was waiting for the Stars turn, which came halfway through the 4th OT. This was after not calling a penalty for 70+ minutes straight. They wanted to players to determine the outcome of the game and only were going to call completely blantant and scoring chance erasing penalties. Man I LOVE the NHL playoffs. It is some of the best sports action ever.

| Jupp awesome action for sure! Though, while it doesn't really have anything to do with this years playoff, I wish NHL and NHLPA would just pull themselves together and ban doping in the league (and check once a year is laughable). It's a god damn disgrace that they don't take it more serious than they do, it really puts a shadow over the league that shouldn't be there in the first place. |

I have a feeling from the hockey gods that this is going 7. If the Stars can force game 7... momentum... something that is the great equallizer in sport, especially hockey might make history repeat itself... Once every 33 years a team comes back from 3 games down to win a series...

Good thing it'll happen to the penguins (again) and the wings will come back and destroy the flyers in 4. Last edited by NeuadvenBonechillerr : 05-18-2008 at 12:35 PM.

+25 Internets | This coming from the guy who in a past thread tried to justify Soviet dominance of international hockey in the 80's when none of the best Canadians were playing as saying that it didn't matter? That's some sweet rationalization there. The World Championships were pretty good this year, actually. The Russian and Canadian lineups were top fucking notch. Sucked to lose on a PP from a delay of game call, but it was the right call. |

I did not say that it didn't matter that Canada didn't have their best players when Soviet dominated, I did however say that I still think they would continue to dominate even if Canada had their best players. You're comparing a potential Canadian team with a bunch of NHL players, all spread out in different clubs, to a Soviet team that were basically playing together 355 days in a year. Of course, like in all major championships, I want the best players to play but even without the best Canada team it's still an achievement... I guess the real issue here is that I hurt your Canadian pride, but that's another discussion. Quote:
For the record, I was watching the championship, I always do even when we have a crap team like this year. The comment was above was more of a "fuck we lost against Canada so I have to say no one cares!" (though, anyone that have seen a puck in their life knew the outcome of that game) than a serious comment, hence the smiley! Last edited by slitz : 05-19-2008 at 12:42 AM.

| You are? Isn't that what everyone said in Game 4? What about game 5 at the Joe? A place where Turco had never won before. Of course it is hard to win when in 11 games there, the Stars only scored a total of 15 goals. There is something to be said about Momentum. Wasn't it last year then the Red Wings had the Ducks down 2-1 and then lost 3 straight in the conference finals? Having game 6 here in Dallas, after beating the Red Wings twice, once at the Joe where they were undefeated in this years playoffs, is a great thing for the Stars. The crowd will be electric and we can keep building off Turco's completely awesome play. Ever since Toby Peterson started manning up on Zetterburg, he has been held pointless the last 2 games. So far, none of the "role" players for Detroit have contributed to their offense, where as Dallas is getting timely scoring from their "Secondary" players, i.e. Trevor Daly/Joel Lundqvist even Marty Turco with an assist on the Game Winning goal and his puck movement led directly to the first goal. When your main players can't score and you can't rely on the rest of the team to come through, it is hard to win in the NHL, especially in the playoffs. That said, there is a good chance it ends here for the Stars and if it does, I will not be in the least bit disappointed. They went further than ANYONE gave them a chance for. They weren't supposed to beat the Duck, last years Stanley Cup champs. After they dispatched them, noone gave them a shot against the Sharks, most peoples favorites to win the cup. No one even considered the Stars to give the Red Wings any trouble and for a while there, they were going to be proven correct. It's a series now, the momentum is firmly with the Stars. They WIngs started taking horrible penalties at the end of the game (Holstrom Roughing a Stars player on the bench) The Red Wings have been shocked at their own barn and might start holding their sticks a little tighter, make an extra pass when they shouldshoot, shoot a little too soon when they should pass... If the Stars become just the 6th team in history to force a game 7 after being down 3-0, all bets are off, but I have my money on the Stars. I love NHL playoff hockey. It truely is some of the best drama in sports. Go Stars!
