The MLB off-season/Scott Boras hate thread

I was considering just posting this in the post-season thread, but I figured hey, we get a thread to bash Boras, laugh at A-Rod, and also talk about where he's gonna go. In time, we can just mutate this thread into the off-season thread too.

Honestly, for some horrible reason (mainly because Omar is obsessed with players of Spanish heritage), I see him going to the Mets for something absolutely absurd like 12 years and 400 million.

LET THE SPECULATION BEGIN!]

One more, from Simmons' podcast chat with Jack-O : "Boras is trying to make enough money to buy his own baseball team so he can negotiate with himself." So true.

Scott Boras is very good at his job. That job is getting the most money possible for his clients.

By the way: A-Rod >>>>> Jeter.

If he's not pricing his clients out of a job, and if he's honest in his dealings then there is absolutely nothing wrong about him doing his job well for his clients. Baseball is where it becomes ridiculous because of a lack of salary cap.

It's just funny to watch Yankee fans complain about Scott Boras while their owner is pretty much single-handedly responsible for utterly fucking the economics of the game.

I think he'll stay a Yankee unless he gets a big 10 year deal from the Cubs somehow. Though thats unlikely since the team still hasn't been sold. The guy has to have some sort of team identity by the time he retires, so it's either Yankee or somewhere else for the next 10 years, and only a handful (Angels, Dodgers, Cubs, Giants, Red Sox, Mets) can reasonably even consider getting in the bidding.

I don't think he'll be in pinstripes next season.

Your average Yankee fan is using A-Rod as a scapegoat so he'll be run out of town and end up with the Angels.

I hope you're right because I think he deserves better, even if he makes tons of money. I'd get wood if the Astros actually got in on this. I mean if we can pay Roger 22.22 million a year to contribute 1 every 5 games, I don't see why we can be competitive with A-Rod bidding.

Players like A-Rod make me love the Pats players like Randy Moss and Tom Brady who take voluntary pay cuts so that the team can stay under the cap and sign more players so the team can contend for a Super Bowl. Now I know that baseball has no salary cap but it is getting so out of hand. The greed of a player like A-Rod or Roger Clemens is just plain sad. "I see him going to the Mets for something absolutely absurd like 12 years and 400 million." WTF 400 Million? That is completely absurd if anyone pays him that? Tiger Woods makes a shit load of money but that is because he wins and if you win you should deserve to get paid (Also from endorsements). Same with Nascar those guys win and get paid. But what had A-Rod ever won besides a REGULAR SEASON game? He is a choke artist. Personally I like the win and get paid.

The thing you don't mention, and I don't know is how the profit is increasing for teams in the league. If the owners are making more and more money, capping the players just means more money in their hands (except for the one or two teams that might just reinvest it into their team).

He'll be a Yankee am almost sure of it

Mets? David Wright at third and Jose Reyes at Shortstop, no place to put him, unless they make Reyes go back to second, but am sure at this point in ARod's career, Reyes' range is greater than ARod's, not that that would be a factor if you have a chance to acquire the best player in the game

I want him to stay a Yankee, resign him for 10 years, he retires a Yankee, hopefully breaks Bonds' homerun record as a Yankee and he'll be guaranteed a plaque in monument park, maybe even have his number retired

personally, as a redsox fan and a baseball fan.

i would not want A-rod on my team.

why?

because he isn't worth the money.

sure he has REALLY good numbers, but for the SAME price i can get 2 Maybe 3 players that put up numbers that are -while not as good individually- combined would be BETTER for my TEAM to win with.

(using the red sox current 3rd basemen as a reference)
straight up mike lowell or A-Rod- for the SAME PRICE- i'd take A-rod in a heartbeat.

but Mike Lowell for 14 million or A-rod for 28 million a year...I'll take Mike Lowell every time and get 1 or 2 other Good players(a good 2nd or 3rd starting pitcher) with the 14 million i saved on this One position...

MLB Trade Rumors
best rumor blog site on the web by far.

He covered all the reasons I couldn't fathom signing him longer than 8 years. Too much can go wrong. You can't realistically expect him to have no drop off by the last 4 years of that contract (one that would have him playing until he's 45). Imagine if he put up the kind of numbers Bonds put up in a full season. If you prorate them for a full season, you'd probably get about 30-35 home runs and 80-90 RBI. Bonds is a fucking freak of nature and he's only able to do what he does because he can't play every day. Now, let's not turn my statement about Bonds into a roid debate because if you do, that just further proves my point that he couldn't do what Bonds is doing at 43 (Bonds for one has a faster swing at 43 then A-Rod does now or has ever had). So his swing speed and bat speed is another thing he has working against him. It's only going to get worse.

I could see the Angels going in for 8/260 or something. I guess that would make sense. Anything more than 8 years just seems like way too much to me.

Speaking of Bonds. Did you see his ex is spilling the beans on him in this upcoming issue where she poses for Playboy? Says he asked her if it was noticeable when he started juicing, says he got super aggressive, says he was asking her if she thought people would connect his hair loss with roids or some shit.

You know the old joke people would say how they buy Playboy for the articles, but this issue might actually prove that true.

As far as A-Rod goes, he has 0 rings and paying him even a fraction of that is retarded.

If we (the Astros) need to be looking for anyone, it's a number 2 starter behind Oswalt and a time machine to get the old Lidge back. While obviously A-Rod would be a huge boost to ours or anyone's line up, the only team I can see him going to is the Angels.
