Sean Taylor

Dead at 24. What a shame. He was going to be one of the greatest safeties to ever play the game.

Was mentioned in the NFL thread, guess it deserves its own thread.

Probably worth more than a mention I'd think.

It's so fucking senseless and horrible and I'm not even talking about it from a sporting standpoint but as a humanity standpoint. Shit like this happens all the time and it's such a shame. I don't even know what else to say except that the whole situation is just really upsetting.

Sean Taylor was a very gifted Player. He was like a linebacker at the safety position. His personality was a bit odd but his play on the field was second to none. Only 24 years old...

Very tragic story. But I'm super curious to see where the investigation goes. There's a lot more to this than a simple break in/shooting. Anyone with knowledge of the full story and some legal/law enforcement background have any sort of guesses/predictions, however macabre it may be at this point?

My armchair investigative skills tell me that this was premeditated. It's the only thing that explains the fact that the bedroom door was kicked in and then shots were fired.

Mike and Mike were speculating that the people did it knew him and that it was pre-meditated. They brought up the topic of youth gang involvement and cited past instances where guys feel obligated to keep their youth friends involved with them once they make it big. I have absolutely no idea how true this is with Taylor (not familiar with his background), but this could definitely be something related to that.

From what I've read, the following happened before/during the murder;

Someone broke into his house a week ago, rifled through his belongings, didn't take anything, but left a knife on the bed.

Before the shots occurred at the house early Monday morning, the telephone line was cut, thus disabling the security system.

EArly Monday morning, ST and his gf, heard noises in the house. ST grabbed a machete(not allowed to own guns because of probation) and went to lock the bedroom door when at that point, the door was kicked in, ST was shot at twice, one shot struck his leg, the other shot hit the wall. Nothing was taken from the house.

That's what's being reported from the various news outlets. Hopefully, they sort this out and find the person who did this.

IMO, this was a planned hit, possibly stemming from the incident two years ago, or something earlier. I do find it odd that he was shot in the leg/groin area if it was a hit, but thats not to say that the shot that missed was aimed at center mass or his head.

He was involved with the wrong crowd at one point, but cleaned his act up after the incident two years ago, and matured quite a bit, even more so after his daughter was born. He was a good kid and one of my favorite players on the skins. I'll certainly miss seeing him play.

Peter King brought up something similar with an article today.

SI.com - Writers - Peter King: Taylor's death will have deep impact on 'Skins, players around NFL - Tuesday November 27, 2007 12:43PM

What I hope is that this is not another Michael Vick story. Not diminishing his prominent role in it, of course, but Vick, obviously, was dragged down by childhood friends.

Each summer, the NFL gathers all its draft picks in a symposium and alerts them to the potential trouble that comes with being young, rich and famous. It's a great idea, and I've told by more than one young player that it's been a big help to their adjustment to living with money and fame.

One of the messages at the symposium: If you have to cut ties to events and people in your past, cut them, and cut them before it's too late. It's a message that played out prominently in the Vick story. Vick never became a contributing member of the Atlanta society, preferring to stay tethered to his Virginia home and Virginia friends. He started a new life, but only halfheartedly; his real life other than in football was all with his friends from the past.

The danger there is that if you need to cut them off and move on, sometimes you can't. Either because of a sense of loyalty, or some vow you made a long time ago that if one of us makes it big, he'll bring the others with him. And the others, many times, are the ones who bring trouble with them.

It's a tragedy either way. As a Cowboy fan he was one of the few players on rival teams I enjoyed watching and wished he put on the Cowboy uniform one day.

RIP sir, I hope whoever did this gets caught.

RIP indeed. What a shame. Not much you can say. I hope they find who ever did it, and lock them up forever. He's recently engaged and has a 1 year old daughter.
