Yeah, it's still about 2.5 years away, but still! Asian qualifying has been underway for a little while now and Europe Just had their draw today (or yesterday). This initial post is going to be somewhat long because I'm going to post the draws/groups of all the

2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying draw
Group 1

Denmark
Hungary
Albania
Malta

Group 2
Greece
Israel
Switzerland
Moldova
Latvia
Luxembourg

Group 3
Czech Republic
Poland
Northern Ireland
Slovakia
Slovenia
San Marino

Group 4
Germany
Russia
Finland
Wales
Azerbaijan
Liechtenstein

Group 5
Spain
Turkey
Belgium
Bosnia-Herzegovina
Armenia
Estonia

Group 6
Croatia
England
Ukraine
Belarus

Oceania and African qualifiers are still in preliminary rounds and the Asian qualifiers are still in the 2nd stage (crappy teams trying to get in the group with the big boys in the region)

Thoughts?

Greece's group is such a piece of shit, they should walk it. England could have a tricky time qualifying unless their new manager can start getting the best out of their undoubted talent. Other than that I think all the first seeds should win their groups. I'm praying Scotland atleast make the play-offs!

Telrem, why did McLeish leave? Another job offer? I thought he did a great job so there's no way their FA put pressure on him to quit.

Awesome, thanks for the info.

I'm very confident that Greece will actually qualify this time.

There are worse ways to go, but I can't think of a more undignified one than auto-erotic asphyxiation.

All those groups look fairly easy for all the major teams. Except for England. Haha, they are so fucked (again.) Croatia again is like a bad joke. And Ukraine. /mourn

Anyway... As much as I like to see France play the Feroe Islands and Lituania, I'm growing a little tired of always watching the same teams play... I understand the need to make the draws by continent. Real world-wide qualifications where Spain would maybe play Laos in their first game would make it too easy for the favorite teams. And the FIFA wants the minor (Asian) countries to at least have a chance.
Still, it would be nice to see different games, with unusual team matching.

NM, I was gonna say didn't Birmingham get Bruce, but Bruce went from Birmingham to Wigan and McLeish went to Birmingham. Okay. That fucking blows. I wouldn't leave a national post for that imo.

I don't blame him really. If someone offers to triple your wages to leave your current job it's a pretty easy decision to make.

I wasn't that disapointed to see him go. He really isn't that great a manager. He inherited Walter Smith's team and tactics, then made no real changes to the team himself other than promote Alan Hutton to right back which was a pretty obvious thing to do.

He was always too slow to make tactical changes and substitutions (Just like at Rangers FC) which cost us in our last two games against Georgia and Italy.

Don't get me wrong I don't think he did a bad job per say but certainly not as good a job as Walter Smith. However you want to look at it, we were 1st in our qualifying group when he took over, and then we finished 3rd...
