With the New Years game's success, NHL needs to at least have an outdoor game annually. I'd say for days, either New Years, Christmas or Thanksgiving would be great dates for them to have it on.

+37 Internets | I missed the game as I was skiing, however it sounds like it was a resounding success. I was at the Heritage Classic so I can attest to the awesome atmosphere of being at one of these games, even if it was so goddamn cold you had roughly 3 minutes to drink a beer before it went slushy. I think it would be a great idea to stage this every year on New Year's day, and let some history be built around it. But it should only be one. This is something that's special because it's rare, and if they go ahead and start having say 3 games at the same time or over a few days every year, it'll make it way less special. How hilarious is it that Ty Conklin has played in both of these games, now? |

| http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=226629&hubname=nhl What the F is up with the Flyers? They are just a bunch of repeat offenders. I hope Downie gets suspended for a while... AGAIN. |

Did you see Hatcher's flying elbow in the clips from that one? That's worth a game too. And in a bit of karmic justice, Hatcher's missed flying elbow on the leaf's player leaves Lupul out for a couple weeks with a mild concussion and spinal cord bruise. Detroit is playing Chicago tonight which means we are going to lose. Last edited by Ishad : 01-06-2008 at 03:56 PM.

| Has Emery Lost It? Emery has been really weird lately after Gerber has stepped it up and has take the number one spot between the pipes for Ottawa. Showing up late for practices and being sent home and what not. Now hes fighting teammates! Emery and Mcgratton started throwing punches at the Ottawa practice! Thats just nuts right there. I think losing his starting spot has really got to him these last couple weeks or so. |

+37 Internets | The guy has a gigantic ego, and I'm not really sure why. He went on one run with the best team in the league, and figures that he's automatically the number 1 goalie no matter where he plays, how he plays, or who he's playing with. Sorry bro, but that's not the way it works. Look at Roloson in Edmonton, for an example. Hero two years ago, now it's looking like he's going to be a 4 million dollar backup to a 1.25 million dollar starter. Also, it's a fucking joke that Downey didn't get a couple games for his sucker punch. I don't think it should have been more than a few, but he definitely needed something. Not suspending him sends the wrong message to him and the rest of the league. |

| This is crazy. I havent looked at the contract deal yet, but man its crazy. Why would someone like Ovechkin want to sign a contract like that? Even if hes traded in say 5 years, the other team has to deal with 8 more years of a contract. Then what happens if he gets injured? Crazy. |

+37 Internets | Yeah, and the Islanders have a top 10 goaltender at 4.5 million for a long time. A lot of people thought it was stupid at first, but it's looking like a smarter and smarter contract as time goes by. Especially when you see Kiprusoff at 7+, and Luongo right up there as well. I mean yeah, you don't want another Yashin incident, but so long as it's the right guy with the right attitude I don't see a problem with these long term contracts. Quote:
What the cap has done, however, is create two classes of players. Now most teams will have 3-6 core guys signed to long term, lucrative contracts that might make up half or even 2/3 of their total cap space. And the rest of the team will be comprised of spare parts that regularly change teams year after year to fill holes as required. Oh and the third class, obviously, of rookies on their entry level contracts. I don't see Ovechkin's contract as a bad thing or signs of a problem, at all. If he gets injured, that's what insurance is for.
