NFL Week 5

The NFL 2007 Season thread tends to be a discussion of the NFL overall. I thought a specific thread each week where we pick winners might be fun. Or I'm just heading for the rickshaw. Either way, I like the idea (albeit stolen from another forum because I'm a plagiarist like that) and so, here you go.

Here are the games:

Arizona at St. Louis
Atlanta at Tennessee
Carolina at New Orleans
Cleveland at New England
Detroit at Washington
Jacksonville at Kansas City
Miami at Houston
N.Y. Jets at N.Y. Giants
Seattle at Pittsburgh
Tampa Bay at Indianapolis
Baltimore at San Francisco
San Diego at Denver
Chicago at Green Bay
Dallas at Buffalo

Here's my picks:

Arizona at St. Louis (Rams continue to tumble)
Atlanta at Tennessee (Vince Young ftw)
Carolina at New Orleans (/mourn last season's hype. N.O. has a chance, but I think it depends not on how good they play, but how poorly Carolina does.)
Cleveland at New England (I don't think that's a stretch.)
Detroit at Washington (I like Campbell, but I think Detroit's on a roll this year.)
Jacksonville at Kansas City (This is a tough one, but I'm going with Herm.)
Miami at Houston (Miami sucks)
N.Y. Jets at N.Y. Giants (I think Pennington is the smarter QB, but his arm sucks. Going with my Giants on this one. Hopefully the D shows up again.)
Seattle at Pittsburgh (Big Ben ftw)
Tampa Bay at Indianapolis (Tampa's D is looking good as is Garcia, but Indy is... well, Indy.)
Baltimore at San Francisco
San Diego at Denver (Really depends on Denver's ability to stop the run, but having Travis Henry out is going to hurt.)
Chicago at Green Bay (Bears continue to plummet. Their D can't help stop the fall anymore. It's too hurt and Brett is playing like it's the 90's.)
Dallas at Buffalo (No contest)

Jackson out another week - Cardinals win
Falcons got lucky last week - Titans win
Saints have to win, otherwise I pick against them the last 12 games - Saints win
Patriots are the Patriots - Patriots win
Lions are hot, the Eagles loss was a fluke - Lions win
KC isn't as surprising as they look - Jaguars win
Miami is this years Oakland - Texans win
Only one NY team is worse than the Giants, the Jets - Giants win
Seattle isn't terrible, but Pitt is pretty good - Steelers win
Colts still have Peyton right? - Colts win
Gore is a snore this year - Ravens win
Chargers are really struggling - Broncos win
Green Bay is the cinderella this year, can't go against Favre - Packers win
Buffalo may make it close, but Dallas is too explosive - Cowboys win

My picks:

Arizona at St. Louis - If they use Warner effectively.
Atlanta at Tennessee
Carolina at New Orleans - Just don't see the 'Aints fired up.
Cleveland at New England - Just because I'd like an upset.
Detroit at Washington
Jacksonville at Kansas City - Coming off last week's win.
Miami at Houston - But close.
N.Y. Jets at N.Y. Giants - Eli (hopefully) continues to quietly improve.
Seattle at Pittsburgh
Tampa Bay at Indianapolis
Baltimore at San Francisco
San Diego at Denver - Rivers and LT are depressing in postgame interviews. Where is the leadership on the field??
Chicago at Green Bay - Provided Favre doesn't get overconfident (sloppy) and "wing it"
Dallas at Buffalo - Enjoy watching Romo play and play well.

  • Arizona at St. Louis - QB issues aside, it seems they finally have a decent Head Coach who can produce some wins.
  • Atlanta at Tennessee - Vince Young is looking damn near unstoppable.
  • Carolina at New Orleans - Flip a coin on this one. Both teams are terrible.
  • Cleveland at New England - Is this game a joke?
  • Detroit at Washington - Washington looks decent but I'll take Detroit because everyone loves and underdog.
  • Jacksonville at Kansas City - Second Flip a Coin game.
  • Miami at Houston - Miami has one offensive weapon. Schaub is the real deal and despite the loss in Atlanta, he put up some impressive numbers.
  • N.Y. Jets at N.Y. Giants - I want the Giants to lose but coming off that dominating defensive effort on Sunday Night, I think they'll roll this one against a terrible Jets team.
  • Seattle at Pittsburgh - Pitt does not resemble the team from last year. Which is a good thing.
  • Tampa Bay at Indianapolis - My Dark Horse pick. The injuries last week to Indy gives TB a good chance here.
  • Baltimore at San Francisco - Since SF can't produce jack or shit offensively, I'm going with Baltimore.
  • San Diego at Denver - AJ Smith continues to walk around with egg on his face as Norv Turner continues to show off his "Never Should Have Been A Head Coach" badge.
  • Chicago at Green Bay - Favre's going to tear up that defense. And he needs to because their running game is absolute shit. Good thing Chicago Offense went missing back in 2006.
  • Dallas at Buffalo - Number 1 Offense vs. Number 32 Defense. Romo will continue lighting up the scoreboard.

Arizona at St. Louis - Kurt Warner is starting, Cardinals win, Warner + Boldin + Fitzgerald = Greatest Show on Turf 2

Atlanta at Tennessee - Vince Young @ home, nuff said

Carolina at New Orleans - NO should have this one, David Carr is starting for Carolina, now we get to see if it was really the Texans that sucked, or just him

Cleveland at New England - Brady to Moss x 3

Detroit at Washington - Am not sure on this one, LaRon Landry, Sean Taylor plus some good corners, Detroit needs a good running game to win, if Eli Manning beat them at Washington, am sure Kitna can

Jacksonville at Kansas City - Arrowhead Stadium, the loudest place on earth, KC is a totally different beast at home, they should win, might be close though

Miami at Houston - Still no Andre Johnson, but Houston can still win at home

N.Y. Jets at N.Y. Giants - Am a Giants fan, how can I go against them, well maybe if we were playing the Patriots, but come on, its the JETS

Seattle at Pittsburgh - They haven't allowed a 100 yds rusher nor a single rushing touchdown so far this season, Alexander won't be the first to do it

Tampa Bay at Indianapolis - I think this game will be much closer than people anticipate, Monte Kiffin should be able to slow down Manning a bit

Baltimore at San Francisco - Baltimore's defense looks lethargic, but they still have enough to beat the Niners

San Diego at Denver - Cutler to Marshall x 2, 100+ YDS receiving, if the game were at San Diego the crowd would be chanting MARTY, MARTY, MARTY! Bailey + Bly = Philip Rivers shut down, which means 7-8 men on the box to stop LaDainian, the Chargers may not be shutout, but it'll be close to one

Chicago at Green Bay - LAMBEAU FIELD, Favre puts on the Superman cape and shows no mercy on a Bears defense that has several pro bowlers injured

Dallas at Buffalo - It's a Blowout

Arizona at St. Louis--(Arizona, The Rams are done)

Atlanta at Tennessee--(Tennessee, Titans will just be to much)

Carolina at New Orleans--(this is kind of a Pick-em game. Hell, i will go with the Saints, they have alot of talent on that damn team to suck this bad)

Cleveland at New England--(Patriots, I think Cleveland will come to play though. It will be a game until the 2nd half of the 3rd quarter)

Detroit at Washington--(Washington, Playing at home. I think that will be the difference the 12th man)

Jacksonville at Kansas City--(Chiefs, 12th man and the emergence of the D-Bowe show)

Miami at Houston--(Houston, Miami is terrible all they have is Ronnie Brown on offense. Trent Green should have retired a Chief and went out on a plus)

N.Y. Jets at N.Y. Giants-- (Giants, Mangenious isnt the genious they thought he was. Giants are just a better team)

Seattle at Pittsburgh-- (This is another pick-em game i think. Going to go with Pitt)

Tampa Bay at Indianapolis-- (Indy, Colts are just to good)

Baltimore at San Francisco-- (Balt, they are going to spoil the Trent Dilfer coming back. Balt needs some kind of offense though)

San Diego at Denver --(San Diego, Denver is 2 plays from being 0-4. They are not a very good team right now)

Chicago at Green Bay--(Green Bay, Packers are a good team this year. Chicago has no offense and are to hurt on defense)

Dallas at Buffalo-- (Dallas, Dallas is to good for Buffalo.)

Concur, not for the same reasons but picks are solid except I think chargers will beat the broncos if Henry is out.

I just want Detroit to keep winning in any fashion they can. The suffering has been too long.

Amen brother! My uncle used to play for the lions, and I've been a longtime fan since I was like 10. I used to go to every game with my dad. I hope our time comes soon...

Steelers are missing Ward and some key defense people, gonna depend on how well Shawn Alexander does.
