Baseball Trade Deadline --Red Sox making moves

The Red Sox are trying to get Gagne and Dye before the trade deadline, this would be HUGE for the Sox:

The Red Sox, who like to aim high, are still trying to beat the Dodgers, Angels and Diamondbacks for White Sox outfielder Jermaine Dye as Tuesday's trade deadline approaches.

Boston is offering talented, but underachieving, outfielder Wily Mo Pena and a reliever for Dye, who is likely to be dealt somewhere before the 4 p.m. ET waiver deadline. The Red Sox appear to be the favorite -- except they are one of only four teams covered by Dye's no-trade provision.

Dye's agent, Bob Bry, said by phone on Monday that Dye would prefer to remain with the White Sox. However, the strong possibility still exists that Dye could wind up changing Sox.

Red Sox close in on Gagne
The Red Sox and Texas Rangers have agreed in principle to a trade involving Eric Gagne, and the Red Sox are now negotiating with the former Cy Young winner to get him to accept the trade.

The Rangers are set to receive prospects in the deal. Boston is not on Gagne's approved list of 12 teams to which he can be traded.

Gagne was my favorite player for a few years when he was a Dodger, The guy is just pure badass. Crazy hockey guy that is a bad ass pitcher. You cannot go wrong, dude has the most wicked change up in baseball.

I hate Boston more then the Yankees.

Was the bullpen even a concern for Boston? It seems like it was pretty good in the first place. Oh well can't have enough pitching.

The point was Brandon Moss is better and more MLB ready than Dave Murphy, but neither would get called up soon. I'm not really happy about Gabbard getting traded since he's been so on this year for us in his spot starts, but if we can hammer out an extension with Gagne (and if not, we'll get picks that are more valuable), it will be worth it. We have too many starting pitching prospects and too many outfield prospects. So it was a fairly logical choice.

They're losing to Baltimore tonight, but Baltimore has been red hot as of late, so I'm not really surprised or worried.

I hope you aren't a Red Sox fan, they're the Yankees in red nowadays.

I am glad that Bill Bavasi resisted the temptation to do something horribly fucking stupid.

Kind of but not really. We don't spend for the sake of spending, we do shit to keep them away from the Yankees and Angels (the only other teams who really spend money like us in the American league). The only reason we bid so much for Daisuke was so the Yanks couldn't get him. Imagine if they got him and we got Igawa? We'd be in second place right now probably. Of course then you have the Johnny Damon sabotage (I'm still CONVINCED Boston knew he was a year away from a breakdown which is why they let him bolt).

The Yankees just throw money around to solve problems (see Clemens, Roger; Igawa, Kai; Pavano, Carl;Wright, Jarod. I Could go on, but I won't because Boston has made some infinitely dumb decisions with Lugo, Drew, and Rent-A-Wreck. The nice thing is they're starting to hold on to their farm guys, but I think they're being a little TOO overprotective. When the Yankees do things, they tend to go overboard. I've seen Jaba Chamberlain pitch but am I gonna count on him to come up and be their John Papelbon? Absolutely not.

I keep saying I hate the Gagne trade for this year, but it made sense for the future because while Gabbard is a solid spot starter, I don't think he'll be on the level of Clay Buchholz or Justin Masterson.

So much Yankee hate in this thread!

P.S. Stop winning Red Sox, you're making it harder for us to win the division again

Prove me wrong. No team has made more WORSE big money signings/trades in the past 5 or 6 years. I mean fuck, you let Strawberry hornswaggle you into taking SHEFFIELD INSTEAD OF VLAD GUERRERO! You also gave a shitload of money to Jarod Wright and Carl Pavano. Matt Clement wasn't bad until he got drilled in the head. Hardly his fault that he was never the same again. You gave an absurd amount of money to someone who can't run anymore (Damon) and a guy with a decent bat but no fielding skills (Giambi). No team in baseball has as many atrocious contracts as you guys. I mean, while the Drew and Lugo deals were terrible, Lugo is movable since his defense isn't bad. We'd have to eat a good chunk of salary, but he is movable.

The jury is still out on the Daisuke signing. The only positive is that we'll make triple on the signing just by the fact that he's a huge star in Japan (and a young one which is a rarity).

Not only that, but you have huge holes to fill at 3rd, catcher, and closer with A-Rod almost definitely bolting out of town and it's going to cost you to keep Posada and Rivera. Then you have to address the need of your aging starting pitching (in a thinner than thin market and virtually no trade market). You guys have some solid prospects in your farm system, but the truth is most prospects don't pan out well in big markets and while Hughes has been okay in his minimal work, it's impossible to say what Chamberlain and Ian Kennedy will bring to the table.

Thanos, I'm not even being obnoxious but I seriously want to know your thoughts on getting rid of Proctor when your go to guys are Bruney and Farnsworth? You got NOTHING as far as pen help (and the pen was absurdly thin as it is) and you're either going to kill Rivera, or bring up Chamberlain way too early.

I hate the Yankees and I won't deny it, but I'm still looking for a small percentage of Yankee fans who are realistic and realize how much trouble they're in in the long term.
