| Scott Baker (who?) almost throws perfect game Scott Baker (yea I know, who?) of the Minnesota Twins almost threw a perfect game tonite. Perfect through 8, walks the leadoff man to ruin the perfect, then gives up a one out hit to lose the no-hitter. I realize he doesn't pitch for Boston, but if Curt Schilling can get his own thread for a one-hitter, so can some schlub from Minnesota. Granted, it was against the Kansas City Royals, but noone put an asterisk beside Daivd Wells' perfect game against the Twins back in the nineties. Great game, good to see the Twins doing something other than the "we can't play well enough to make a run" shit they have been all year. AAhh well, 4 Central Championships in 6 years is nothing to sneeze at (despite the fact they are incapable of making it out of the first round of the playoffs). |

| And Sweeney got the hit, and he hasn't played since... June? Anyway, fuck the twins, I hate when their fans come to Kansas City. I was so glad we got that hit. Oh, and we won the earlier game that day so it isn't like we got our asses kicked too bad. |

+20 Internets | eta minus 5 minutes before red sox fan makes a thread about it. actually now it's the 9th inning and probably deserves the thread. edit: he did it - generous 3rd strike call, but pretty sweet

| He nailed it. Dude looks like a college freshman wearing a uniform that is too big for him. Simply awesome. Congrats kid!

| I already hit it in the other Sox thread. I've been raving about Buchholz for the last 6 months. Watching his triple A/Double A starts and what not. His curve is devastating even for a guy who probably isn't totally MLB ready yet. He was getting a lot of generous calls from the umpire all night in all honesty. I think it's a bit of payback for Becektt/Schilling/Dice getting such horrible calls all week against the Yankees. But yeah, he's got a great curve and a pretty good fastball with some movement. What always makes me laugh is he has the face of a 15 year old in a college freshman's body. Him and Tim Lincecum are two peas in a fuckin pod. The nice thing is Clay is up for the rest of the year so he'll probably get a few more starts before the playoffs and he gets bumped to the pen. Hopefully JD Drew breaks his leg getting up to take a piss so Brandon Moss or Jacoby Ellsbury (their production would be higher than Drew's anyway). |
