| Why sign Testeverde? ESPN - Pats come to terms with veteran QB Testaverde - NFL I just don't understand the reasoning the Pats would even bother. It is not like Brady needs advice from a has been who has never done anything on the big stage. And Brady's backup is actually one hell of a quarterback... Funny thing is he has never started a game in college or the pros. Was a backup every year at all levels. So I think he has thrown a total of 100 passes the last 8 years combines lol. Why not use the spot for a special teams guy whos only job is to break necks on kickoff and punt returns and has no other responsibilities. If Brady gets hurt you then hire an old fart like Testeverde..... |

+20 Internets | Cassel is a hell of a quarterback since when? What's he done to constitute that? For a team like the Patriots signing Vinny is okay because if Brady is injured he can come in and manage a game and not fuck it up so they can still leave with a win. What I don't understand is when teams that are obviously rebuilding do shit like that. Like the Titans even bothering to start Kerry Collins at all last year or Miami passing on Quinn. Shit like that just baffled me

+2 Internets | The Dolphins passed on Quinn because they knew he'd never be able to concentrate on running a game with all the hot south florida dudes in the stands with no shirts on.

Also, veteran backups are all the rage nowadays. Guys who were good in their prime and can still lead the team if called upon, but who aren't afraid to admit that they're better off in a backup position in the first place. See: Brad Johnson for the Cowboys. Man won a Super Bowl and now he's backing up a largely untried Romo. Trust me, when Brady gets his socks rocked, you'll be glad a vet like Vinny is there to pick up the broken pieces of the Pats season.

| Vinnie needs a ring so why not ride along with the Pats on there soon to be undefeated season? Maybe the Pats will let him do a drop kick FG or something. If he was actually looking to play he could have signed with a team like Dallas. Their QB can't even hold an extra point.

Not a bad signing, he's basically a player coach now.

Most experts say if he retired now he would already make the hall of fame. But of course none of it would happen without Vinataeri... god did the Pats screw up with him, they made a terrible gamble thinking he would not go anywhere and they lost very bad.

| While they definitely would have been better if they kept him, it didn't hurt them that much. And besides, with their team now they won't have to worry about making a FG at the end of the game to win, they're gonna score 30+ a game ![]() |
