| Can't blame Selig, but I did notice that too. The man is in a terrible position, and yes maybe he brought some of it on himself, but still. If he claps he will get labelled a Bonds supporter and either he thinks he is innocent or doesn't care about steroids in baseball and if he doesn't clap he is a cold bastard. Lesser of two evils imo.

| Grats Bonds. And as for Selig he could have made baseball have a strict drug testing policy and did nothing for years, it is his fault. Of course players are gonna juice if you don't test, they want to get paid millions of dollars, be in the hall of fame, and be the best. He should blame himeslf.

| /yawn Just like a good portion of sports fans, I just can't bring myself to care. I don't plan to recognize Bonds as the true owner of that record. He has his own druggy record, grats on that I guess. Aaron is still the rightful owner. |

| While I believe that most of the players are on some form of juice, I also believe in the conspiracy that baseball was juicing the balls. Like, last year. I think it's just a little strange that mostly everyone's power numbers are WAY down. Since pitching hasn't seemed to improve that much, so obviously something is weird. Who knows, maybe the whole steroids scandal is a huge cover up for the juicing scandal. The steroid conspiracy is a conspiracy! But, on Barry Bonds. You can say what you want about the guy, but 755 (soon to be 756), is quite the accomplishment. If you work under the assumption that everyone was juicing, guys like Sosa, McGwire, Canseco, Thomas aren't even close. In fact, McGwire had the record HR season and he wasn't even remotely close (granted he retired early, but only because he broke down so quickly due to most likely the absurd amount of juice he was on). My logic on Bonds is that if he were juicing up at the rate most people say he is, his body would of broken down by now and he wouldn't be playing. Aside from the knee (something that can happen to fielders in general and I'd argue that it's even more common in a 40 something year old guy who was probably taking steroids). So before you run around saying Barry was juicing up to the point where his head is as fat as a beach ball, just look at his professional medical history in comparison with other high juiced pro athletes. Nothing adds up. Am I saying he never did steroids? Absolutely not. I believe int his era, almost EVERYONE is juicing. It's just the retards who get caught. Plus, do you think baseball would WANT to catch Bonds in the act? |

| Probably, but i wouldn't be surprised if A-rod juiced at some point as well. People are already looking to A-rod as the guy that will be the "real" record-breaker, but he started his career smack in the middle of the steroid era as well. He also has gotten quite a bit bigger since his first few years, and played on a team with at least one other star that we know used steroids (Palmeiro). I think when it was found out Palmeiro had used them, that really opened the door for the possibility that anybody might have; you just can't tell short of somebody going down every alley of a players life the way the A-holes at the SF Chronicle did to Bonds. Ironically, as a reminder that the steroids era went in favor both ways, the pitcher that gave up Bonds 755th was suspended a couple years ago by MLB for using performance enhancing drugs. Steroids probably helped Bonds get his 755, but Aaron had an easier time in his era in other ways. Aaron wasn't pitched around the way Bonds has been, not nearly. Nobody in the history of baseball has been, because Bonds was that good and rarely had much thump backing him up. Also, Aaron didn't have to face 3 or 4 different pitchers a game, the way all hitters these days obviously do. Aaron played in home-run friendly parks, where as Bonds played the majority of his career in two of the toughest to hit the ball out in. |

+20 Internets | I will recognize Bonds as the true HR champ once he hits 756. Like Pharazon said Aaron never had to deal with the amount of intentional (and hundreds of intentional "unintentional" walks) that Bonds did. Bonds has some 600 intentional walks to Aaron's 180 or something they were saying on ESPN. The guy has 7 MVPs too. He was once walked 7 straight plate appearances in a row, and I guaruntee you they weren't all pitch outs. The guy has the greatest plate discipline/eye in baseball history. Even in the year that Bonds hit 73 HRs "he also managed to shatter two of Babe Ruth's longstanding records -- most walks (177) and highest slugging percentage (.863) ". When he cheated (because nobody can ignore a 24HR jump) what he was doing wasn't against MLB policy. We have no idea what players used for an advantage back when either Ruth or Aaron played. To think that only in the last 20 years that players have looked for an edge is naive to me. -Only player in 400 home run and 400 stolen base club -Only player in 500 home run and 500 stolen base club People also get larger when they're older. They rely less on their speed and agility than when they were younger and change their game. Look at Michael Jordan when he was in Chicago those first 10 years then look at him his last 5. Nobody ever accused him of cheating (and I don't think he did, he's my favorite athlete of all time) but he got bigger for sure. He was even a SF instead of a shooting guard his last years in Washington. Not to say Bonds didn't use anything, but I hate when people say "DERF LOOK AT HIM IN PITTSBURGH" Bonds used to talk about how the balls felt differently some games back in that 73HR season and the year after and a lot of people laughed. Some pitchers thought the ball was juiced some days and he thought the ball was whatever the opposite of that was. The guy is probably the greatest MLB player to ever play the game and it's really a shame that this whole steroid thing is making people overlook his insane talent. Not even just the the HRs but until his knee problems he was just an all around baseball demi-god on both sides of the field.

| I give Babe ridiculous amounts of credit. He played in an era where parks were monstrous as far as fence distance goes and Yankee stadium had like a 470 foot center field or something. If he had a 405 like most guys have today, he probably would of hit 800 or even 850-900. No one can deny that. |

| For the most part no, which meant he had to supply most of the power himself. And most people tend to forget that Ruth was a great pitcher as well at the beginning of his career and could have been dominant there as well. He was probably the greatest overall player there ever was, but his was a totally different era. Couldn't care less about Bonds breaking the record. Tom Glavine getting 300 is much more impressive to me, and he'll probably be the last one to ever get there. He and Maddux proved you didn't have to throw 95 MPH to win games. Location and changing speeds is the key, and they have 639 wins between them to prove it. And to the guy above that said "fuck Hank Aaron", why? |
