+12 Internets | I've always wondered why people hate the Yankees for spending so much money. It's like hating someone for trying to win. They make some dumb decisions(so does every other team btw) so feel free to make fun of them for spending 10 billion dollars on someone that doesn't pan out, but people act like they're evil, or somehow cheating by spending money to get players they think will help them win now. I understand most people are sheep and will auto-root for the underdog in all situations, and as such they will be auto-rooting against the Yankees. As a Yankee fan I've just always found the reasons most people give for hating them to be interesting. Also fuck the Redsox, who are basically the Yankees in red but get treated like the lovable underdogs. Non-Curt Schilling Redsox players are douchebags, and Redsox fans are fags. There I said it.

| It's been pretty well established in another thread you're a Yankee fanboy, so it's not surprising you wouldn't understand. But to sum up; the way the Yankees were spending money in the late 90s/early 00s is one of the major reasons that the economics of baseball are so fucked up right now. It's led to things like Gil Meche getting $11 million a year for 5 years. To head off the "well just spend as much money as the Yankees do!" argument: No other MLB team has the YES network to bankroll their player acquisitions. So no other team can realistically spend like the Yankees. Top five team payrolls in MLB this year: 1 Yankees $195,229,045 2 Red Sox $143,526,214 3 Mets $117,915,819 4 White Sox $109,680,167 5 Angels $109,251,333 So yeah, with the exception of the Red Sox, who I agree have worn out the underdog act, the Yankees can spend nearly double the payroll dollars that any other team can. The only reason they haven't been getting value out of their payroll for the last few years is that they've been historically awful at talent evaluation, but that is changing, and once they catch up to the smarter teams in the league, we'll be back to the fucked up situation of the late 90s. |

+12 Internets | I am a complete and total Yankee fanboy, I will not deny it. I love them. There's nothing I look forward to more each year than watching them(and baseball in general) in October. I completely dread the year they don't make the playoffs(maybe it's this one...) I understand I root for the most hated team in all of sports. Basically everyone on this planet that isn't a Yankee fan will always be rooting against them in every situation. Even people that don't care about baseball root against the Yankees. It's very interesting to me! Anyway, I completely agree that this is a problem, but I don't see how this is something you can fault the Yankees for. This is a problem with baseball. You cannot hate a team for not pulling their punches, so to speak. It's not like they're cheating. They do what they can to win each year, and isn't that what we hope the ownership of every team will do? How can you hate a team for doing everything they can do -- within the rules of the league -- to win each year? The logic just never added up to me. This a baseball problem, and really, anyone that agrees should probably be rooting for the Yankees to win every year because that's probably the only thing that will spark a change.

| Ok I love the Red Sox because I lived in Boston for 26 years and grew up on them. Yes the Red Sox are the 2nd highest payroll in the MLB, but I still don't compare them to the Yankees. The Yankees are the evil empire of baseball. I hate them so much. Bunch of cocksuckers imo. Their team is all scumbags and every year they try to buy the World Series by giving top players crazy ass contracts that no other team would give them. Look at Roger Clemens this year, what other team would do that? On top of this, the Yankees always do dirty shit too, for example: A-Rod yelling at someone during a pop fly, or ARod trying to knock the ball out of the first basemans glove, or sliding into second and intentionally trying to ruin the second basemans career, or throwing pitches at star players heads on the oppisite team, or Roger Clemens throwing the broken bat at Mike Piazza in the WS after beaming him with a ball 3x, and the list goes on and on. They are so dirty. On top of that Yankees get all the calls from the Umps like the Umps are paid off, it feels like the mafia and police that have been paid off. So many calls go the Yankees way and replay after replay you can see that the Ump made a horrible call and the other team got screwed, and this has happened SOOOO many times in history. On top of that George Steinbrenner is a dickhead, I can't stand that guy and his stupid ass comments. He also makes Yankees wear pinstripes (like suits) and be clean shaven, have perfect hair cuts, and treat the game like a business (not a game) to further promote their evil empire/corporate status. A team like the Red Sox are complete opposites where they all have facial hair/beards, strange hair cuts and dreads, no pinstripes, huge amounts of pinetar gooped to their helmets, and they have fun. On top of all this you get people from New Jersey, like my roommate who roommate cheer for the Yankees because they are huge bandwagon jumpers. They never lived in NYC, they just like the team because they win a lot and are the evil empire team. Get your own team you bums. Only thing that pisses me off more is all these Yankee fans that live in Boston that come to Fenway park to cheer on the Yankees. At these games it is easily 1/2 Yankee fans. If you love NYC so much go fucking live there. I wear my YANKEES SUCK Tshirt with pride and know that records have nothing to do with them sucking. And my two favorite teams will always be the Red Sox and anyone currently playing against the yankees. That is why I will always cheer on fellow Red Sox fans such as Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, etc...they are true fans: Matt Damon going on Letterman in NYC with a Sox jersey and trash talking is fantastic.

+3 Internets | Wow, /tinfoilhat more Burkex, lol. The Red Sox are just as bad as the Yankees, they are just too far in denial to realize it. And bandwagon accusations are just lol coming from a Red Sox guy, there are probably more Red Sox supporters around the country than Yankee fans. The Red Sox are just the anti-Yankee bandwagon, get over yourselves ![]() Quote:

+12 Internets | Try to buy the world series? Are you fucking retarded? Steinbrenner wants to win, and he is willing to spend money to get players that he thinks can help him win. It is absolutely absurd to expect the team to hold back when they are well within the rules of the league. Did you even read my post? Do you actually expect the Yankees to pass on good players they can afford just out of some ridiculous sense of fairness to the league? Boston does whatever they can do within the rules to win, just like the Yankees. You're a total hypocrite. And waaaa the Yankees pitch inside and try to break up double plays when they slide into 2nd base. Boohoo. This is the fucking Major Leagues, not tee-ball. Everyone in the league does these things. Burkex is the perfect example of the type of person I was talking about in previous posts.

| It's only a "baseball problem" because the Yankees created the problem and the rest of the teams in the league are trying to keep up despite not having access to the same type of resources that the Yankees have access to. Luckily, once Steinbrenner finally kicks the bucket, someone more sane will take over the franchise and there might be an opportunity to get the economics of the game back into healthier shape and we won't have to see any more teams like the 2003-2004 Marlins. |

| BUBBLES THE MONKEY!!! | His two sons. Both of who have sound business sense. Now that his step-son got piss drunk and pulled over and got a divorce. The problem is also guys like Scott Boras. They come up with these disguisting price ranges for players. Salary caps wouldn't help anything. They'd just create holdouts like in football. It's absurd. If Football had guaranteed money (which it can't due to frequent injuries). I don't know how to fix baseball honestly. bleh. |
