+3 Internets | Yea, but when USC was hyped as the best team in college history with Leinart, Bush, etc., they actually won the national title twice and came within one stop of a third. Can't say the same about other highly hyped teams in national championship games recently. |

2006/07 BCS Championship— Florida 41, Ohio State 14 (final #2 ranking) 2005/06 Fiesta— Ohio State 34, Notre Dame 20 (final #4 ranking) 2004/05 Alamo— Ohio State 33, Oklahoma State 7 2003/04 Fiesta— Ohio State 35, Kansas State 28 (final #4 ranking) 2002/03 Fiesta— Ohio State 31, Miami (FL) 24 (2OT) (National Champions) 2001/02 Outback— South Carolina 31, Ohio State 28 2000/01 Outback— South Carolina 24, Ohio State 7 1998/99 Sugar— Ohio State 24, Texas A&M 14 (final #2 ranking) 1997/98 Sugar— Florida State 31, Ohio State 14 1996/97 Rose— Ohio State 20, Arizona State 17 (final #2 ranking) 1995/96 Citrus— Tennessee 20, Ohio State 14 I see one there. Edit: And I was talking about only when they were being given "best team ever" status. Ohio State never had that type of hype except for maybe last year, so they are irrelevant. Ohio State - overrated last year. Oklahoma - overrated x2. Miami - overrated vs. OSU. USC - probably overrated vs. Texas (arguable) but still 2 national titles. they don't have two national titles. usc is a university in the pac10. the pac10 is a member of the bcs. that means that usc recognizes the bcs as the entity that awards national championship titles. if they don't agree to this, they don't have to. they simply drop out of being a bcs school. however they did agree to this the year we're talking about. that year the AP gave them their title because they disagreed with the bcs. that doesn't mean shit. they got half a title for no real reason (beating an overrated michigan team that year isn't a reason). they never played the bcs champion, the national champion lsu team. notice that i'm being generous by allowing you to claim the .5.

| Afraid they might have to actually play one of the best teams to claim they are the best? Sounds like poor sportsmanship to me.

Like I said in the beginning, when USC was being praised as the "best college team ever" they won the national title 2, almost 3, times in a row. They did what they were supposed to do, so the praise was warranted. I guess you're automatically eliminated from being a contender for best team ever if you play football on the West Coast? Edit: In regards to the Pac-10 BCS thing, that's retarded. They probably want to keep their ties with the Rose Bowl, but I'm sure they could figure out a way to do that in a plus-one system. Just have the BCS bowls that act as the playoff game sites choose their teams like they do now. Not like they need a playoff anyway, USC would just have to win 2 games instead of 1.

| Plus one system would make a big mess. What happens after Texas beats USC? They have to play who? There was no one else. Don't say they would drop the plus one system that year either cause they wouldn't. Last year who does Florida play? Boise State? USC? This is a horrible solution that makes even less sense then what is currently (horrible) in place. There will not be a playoff anytime soon which is what we all really want so people would be better off stop trying to come up with dumb solutions like this. There is no true NCAA title for football and that's how the schools want it. The BCS isn't an NCAA championship, it's just the BCS championship. Michigan can claim however many football championships they have (12 or whatever it is) due to the fact that there's no official championship and back in the day there seemed to be a lot of split champions. The BCS is the closest we've had to an official one and a lot of that has to do with the networks backing it and paying a lot of money to promote it. |

| In a +1 system, you can't have 1-2 play and 3-4 play. You need a playoff style setup. 1-4 and 2-3. The two winners then play. Yes, 2-4 could wind up playing for the title, but if 1 or 3 doesn't win, should they play for the title? All of this would be much simpler if we had a fraction of the bowls like it used to be, but hell, with 50+ teams playing a bowl game they have lost all meaning. It's not special anymore, it's just a game any .500+ team can get to. The only solution is either get rid of a ton of the bowls (won't happen.. too much money) or a mini-playoff. +1 is the best solution in this era of CFB.
