Why not keep the Pac 10 vs. Big Ten tradition that is the Rose Bowl?

Both teams are hot right now. USC is talented but lets teams hang with them.

Total Defense (from here )
4. West Virginia

Even when our team has played poorly, its only been when Pat White was hurt and our defense has played well all year against some of the top offenses in the nation like Louisville (who has a horrid defense). WVUs defense has been under the radar all year, and people focus too much on the offense and forget how good it is with 9 seniors. OU hasnt played against a defense as good as WVUs all season (and vice versa), but I think that matchup looks good on paper. WVU and OUs offense average 450 and 451 ypg (#18 and 19 in cfb), so I think it will stay in the high 20s low 30s.

I think it will be an exciting game, but if they play to their potential I think WVU beats Oklahoma. Of course, Im a WVU alum, so a close game in our favor is about as objective as I'll be. If they play like they did last night, OU will beat us in a landslide, but Coach Rodriguez has historically gotten his teams to play lights out in bowl games. I expect them to actually throw a lot in this game, Oklahomas pass defense has gotten torched all year, which will open up the run--thus a win for WVU if they can make OU get 8 and 9 out of the box. Either way, there will be some great athletes on the field, with two of the nations top freshmen in Devine and Bradford.

I just can't see Illinois threatening USC. I can however see Hawaii hanging with and maybe beating Georgia. I have a feeling OU will obliterate WVU. As for the title game, I say LSU (both in head and heart). I really feel with a month off they'll be a much better team. I'm not sure how they leap frogged 4 teams by squeaking by Tennessee, but that's how they've been winning and I'm happy about it.

I'm satisfied with the BCS bowl match-ups. There are also some other great games out there as well. Chick-fil-A Bowl, Clemson vs. Auburn; Cotton Bowl, Missouri vs. Arkansas; Capital One Bowl, Michigan vs. Florida; those along with the Sugar and Rose Bowls should be an exciting January 1st. Kicking myself in the rear still for having passed on Fiesta Bowl tickets earlier in the year.

I'd like to say Florida vs. Michigan would be a great game, but I expect the Tebows to win by 50.

Im happy my team(MSU) made it to a bowl game this year(See; Liberty Bowl), but we gotta go against UCF.. Kinda makes me sad, because I know we won't win.

Even though I can't say much. Quite honestly the only games i've watched all year was LSU(First game of the season) and Ole Miss. And Bama.

If they pull out the win against UCF I'll be pretty happy.

Well, if you'd like to go by stats like those, you played the following teams

Rank Team G Pl Yds Avg TD Ydspg
8. Louisville 12 909 5856 6.44 55 488.00
26. Rutgers 12 849 5246 6.18 44 437.17
28. Cincinnati 12 863 5236 6.07 59 436.33
39. South Fla. 12 910 5059 5.56 54 421.58
46. Marshall 12 840 4954 5.90 37 412.83
57. Western Mich. 12 921 4776 5.19 41 398.00
71. East Caro. 12 807 4535 5.62 47 377.92
83. Connecticut 12 836 4300 5.14 39 358.33
88. Maryland 12 824 4207 5.11 35 350.58
108. Pittsburgh 12 811 3834 4.73 31 319.50
112. Mississippi St. 12 819 3664 4.47 35 305.33
114. Syracuse 12 758 3503 4.62 24 291.92

For an average total offense rank of 65. One team WVU played is in the top 10, 2 more in the top 30 and after that it is below 39. Additionally, you have only played one team that has a statistically higher rated offense than OU, and you didn't hold them below 30 points.

OU, on the other hand, played the following teams

Rank Team G Pl Yds Avg TD Ydspg
1. Tulsa 13 104 7053 6.78 70 542.54
2. Texas Tech 12 920 6444 7.00 66 537.00
5. Missouri 13 104 6405 6.16 65 492.69
5. Missouri 13 104 6405 6.16 65 492.69
9. Oklahoma St. 12 895 5809 6.49 53 484.08
13. Texas 12 889 5544 6.24 55 462.00
48. North Texas 12 934 4901 5.25 40 408.42
54. Texas A&M 12 883 4833 5.47 43 402.75
72. Colorado 12 893 4524 5.07 41 377.00
86. Baylor 12 859 4215 4.91 29 351.25
110. Miami (Fla.) 12 779 3781 4.85 30 315.08
115. Utah St. 12 743 3335 4.49 30 277.92

Which includes 5 teams rated statistically higher than WVU, including the number 5 offense in the country twice. In those 6 games, only one of those teams scored over 30 points. Missouri scored 31 on Oct 13th, but even then they had to score a touchdown with 12 seconds left in the game to do it. So your prediction of 38 points by WVU is still pretty cracked out.

You guys should be happy we have human factors, apparently the computers had VT #1 and LSU #2 at .960 and .950 respectively. Ohio State is a distant 3rd at .910.

I'm trying to find tickets (free ones) from players I know and from the Illinois football offices to the Rose Bowl. It's gonna be damn hard as I am broke as fuck, but I'm gonna find some mother fuckers to road trip that bitch with if I have to. Flights into LA...4-500 bucks from StL? Ya fuck that, split gas 4-5 ways...probably also a bad idea.

Fla got Michigan eh?

Hmmmm............cool I guess.

Missouri is playing Ark in Cotton BOWL

ROFLMAO...that is wrong on so many levels. I was hoping Texas played Arkansas so Ham could scream pig sooie.

Jesus christ I was watching Reggie Herring talking about LOSING his coaching staff as he was in tonights conference about the game.

Prediction: Houston Nutt calls Reggie on Cell phone during game and says two words.

Wild Hog.

Fun night with Dmac and felix jones.

p.s.

Genj I really think OU will spank WVU. I mean they lost to Coach Crutches.

I will cheer for WVU as the underdog (Cause they are imo)

and you Hawaii guys coming here screaming about Hawaii? Sheeeeeiiit. Those dawgs are mad as hell, I really wouldn't want to be any team on the receiving end of those shafted feeling rabid mutts.

With that said...

man Hawaii would own to go to college at.

Hey liquiddeath, I can play this game too.

WVU has played a tougher schedule overall and also has a better SoS than Oklahoma, 42nd vs 59th in the Sagarin rankings. Overall the teams we played were better--you're just presenting a small picture of what makes OU look favorable.

See, I can flip the argument to say Oklahoma plays in the no-defense conference, ie, the Big 12.

Lets look at the quality defenses Oklahoma piled up yards on then shall we?

Total Defense
Miami 30th
Texas Tech 50th
Texas 54th
Missouri 59th
Colorado 64th
Texas A&M 83rd
Oklahoma State 103rd
Utah St 107th
Baylor 109th
Tulsa 111th
North Texas 113th

WVU is number 4 in all of cfb.

Now for WVUs competition:
Pittsburgh 7th
Rutgers 13th
South Florida 22nd
Mississipi State 28th
UConn 31st
Maryland 42nd
Cincinatti 51st
Western Michigan 69th
Louisville 84th
East Carolina 98th
Marshall 108th
Syracuse 110th

It's not even close comparing defenses. WVU faced four defenses better than the best one OU saw all season, and four top 30 defenses vs Miami who made it in dead last in even the top 30, or seven top 50 defenses vs two OU saw. Almost half the teams OU faced aren't even in the top 100 in total defense.

Its not trash talk, its just how it is....so that said....

The Fiesta Bowl matchup easily has the best teams both WVU and OU have faced all year no doubt (dont kid yourself, WVU would assrape Mizzous 59th ranked D), but I think WVU will score more points. I imagine we will be an underdog, but that doesn't bother me, our two losses were better looking than Oklahomas too. Ironic both of our NCG chances were shot when our starting QBs got knocked out of games. If Pat White was healthy the entire game in both games we lost, we would probably be undefeated even playing very poorly in those games. Take away Pat White and Bradford getting hurt, this game would likely be the BCS NC game, oh well, cant bitch injuries are a part of football.

Also Stoops too good in any major game? Hi Boise State. Stoops is a good coach, but hes not football Jesus either so lets be fair. Rich Rodriguez is a far more influential coach in the cfb scene, looking at how many teams run a variation of his zone read spread offense in cfb now. Coaching is equal, both are very good coaches, and it should be a very good game. This is by far the best non NCG big bowl game as far as talent goes in my biased opinion.

38 might be a bit high, but I still think WVU wins by a TD.

I've used this example a lot, and it's why I hate the conference championship games. Because the year that Kansas State was already undefeated and #2 and ready to play in the NC they had to go play a meaningless game against the Aggies, they lost (in double OT I think... been a while) and ended up playing in the ALAMO Bowl. Really hurt me that year, I was rooting so hard for KSU because Michael Bishop was from the town I was going to High School at (met him, autograph that is now worthless, etc). Grr. Bark. Bark. Grr.
