| As an alumni I was, of course, glued to the ECU vs. VT game but my God! Go App. State! I don't much care for Michigan and strongly dislike ND. Looks like this will be a good opening day for me despite Glennon still sucking along with the O-line. I can only hope we don't get embarrassed in Baton Rouge next week. Beamer needs to mix it up a bit at quaterback. |

| Prior to today I was dreading next weekend for LSU, but I am much relieved after seeing how rusty and overrated VT looks. I wonder if some of their ranking is almost sympathy rankings due to the tragedy. I mean, they are a good team.. but not a #9 team.

| We bawlin boi! | Yea, I wouldn't be too worried about VT, they looked awful. East Carolina clearly out-played them in that game, especially in the first half. They had major trouble running the ball against ECU at their big emotional home opener and they're expecting to win against a much better LSU defense? I wouldn't expect VT will be getting such a warm fuzzy reception at LSU, and their QB looked absolutely horrible. Not ragging on VT, but I watched both the LSU and VT games in their entirety, and VT looks way overmatched. Who knows, could be just a fluke or jitters. On another note, I was happy we (WVU) stomped western michigan into the ground. I know, they're nothing special (even though they did have the 11th ranked d last year) but that damn Michigan game made me nervous! Got a look at freshman Noel Devine (the video I posted earlier in the thread)....8 rushes 55 yards and a td in his first college game....the future is looking bright for us.

+3 Internets | It's a good weekend for me so far, Washington rolled Syracuse (Jake Locker for Heisman/Football Jesus), Notre Dame got pounded, and Hawaii is a 60-point favorite tonight. Too bad the UH game isn't on TV here in Seattle. Edit: And Wazzu got pounded also. Woot! Last edited by cdyhybrid : 09-01-2007 at 06:16 PM. |

| BUBBLES THE MONKEY!!! | Nick Saban was such an idiot for leaving LSU. It's such a surefire job. I think LSU absolutely smokes VT. I still LOVE WVU as a title contender though. The Big East has 3 very good teams in WVU, Rutgers, and Louisville so strength isn't much of a problem. |

+19 Internets | I'm talking about pre-season rankings in general. Ranking a team before they've done a thing on the field is a totally unfair system. It ends up not mattering in CBB due to the playoff, but a team can be a pre season top 10, beat nobody and end up in a title game basically because of where they started the season ranked and they progressive climb up the charts from other teams losing. |

| Well, I am a UGA fan, so watching my Bulldogs handle the Oklahoma State game was pretty satisfying. Especially since those morons on ESPN picked OK State to pull off an "upset". I don't think ESPN gives Georgia much credit to be honest, yeah, last year was a down year for us, but goddamn is Mark Richt a great coach, and Stafford was a freshman last year so having him already have a year of experience under his belt is definitely going to be big for us. Our receivers and defense looked pretty damn good too. It's going to be exciting, especially since Auburn looked like shit against Kansas State, and Tennessee got outplayed by Cal. Despite what the scoreboard read, I say KState won that game. They walked into Auburn and outplayed them for four quarters and basically walked all over that offensive line. Makes me happy. I can't stand it when everyone touts SEC football as the "best there is." Yeah, we have some good teams but so do other conferences. It's why NCAA football needs a playoff system involving each team that wins its conference, IMO. |

Playoff system should be based on teams that win their conference. NCAA Football has 11 conferences. The conference champs with the worst records can play a "play-in game" and then playoff play begins the following week with the system based on seeding due to record and rank. I mean lets face it, a conference championship should mean something. With this system, gay conferences like the Big Ten(Eleven) and Pac-10 need to bring in another team to get a conference title game going. And Independents? Fuck you Notre Dame, you can join the Big Ten. I don't get why the Pac-10 is so against conference title games. That's more money for your school and the conference. I guess USC could get upset and then they'd lose their national title bid, but hey, that didn't stop Oklahoma that one year! And for all the other teams that didn't get their conference title you could still have a bowl season. This playoff system would bring in much more revenue and more televised games, so the nation gets more college football + schools make more money. Win, win situation for everyone. | |

| I've been mostly aching for football, especially the NFL, so I haven't been paying much attention to CFB, including my team FSU. So who decided we should be #19? If anyone watched the game vs. Clemson, we have a horrible O-line and our Defense was nowhere near as good as last year. That's the last time I listen to Lou Holtz. The one time those ESPN dorks get me actually worked up about how we're gonna have a good year, should win the ACC...and surprise! The team still doesn't have it together and Bowden is another year older! I'm not really surprised or heartbroken over this fact other than we probably won't be giving UM and UF much of a run for their money this year. It's just so much more exciting when teams in rivalries are both actually doing good. Even 'Canes and Gators fans will be sleeping by halftime the way FSU is looking. ![]() |

| Well the BCS doesn't come out until several weeks into the season since it needs games to complete the rankings. The preseason polls are just reference points based on the previous season performance, returning starters, coaches, recruitment quality, schedule and etc. No one puts any stock into them, it's just a guideline of what a team could and probably should be, but nothing is ever guaranteed. Besides, it gives us like 2 weeks of water cooler material during the dry season! |

+27 Internets | The point is that the preseason polls are meaningful despite how worthless they are. The BCS is 2/3rds human polls, and where you wind up in the human polls directly correlates to where you started. A team that starts off outside of the 25 has virtually no shot of making it to a title game no matter how good of a season they have. The BCS rewards winning through attrition far more than it rewards winning because you're the best. |

| Umm, last year Arkansas wasn't even near the top 25 and they were a favorite for making the title game until they lost a couple of games to close the year out. That's after they got blown out by USC to open the season. |
