Hot Dog Eating

ESPN - Kobayashi, Chestnut stand jaw to jaw at weigh-in - Moresports

Is this the year that the crown of a truly American sport will finally come back to our shores and out of Japan? We can only hope.

I stumbled on to some Brat eating competition awhile back. The intros were awesome. Every competitor was a champion. It was hilarious. "World record for tacos eating, motza ball soup eating, and sourkraut eating" etc etc on and on. It was great. Hot wings, meatloaf, dumplings, you name it they competed at eating it.

Best reason to watch is Sonya Thomas. Moderately attractive little lady of asian descent. Can't be more than 100lbs. As bizarre as it is to see these normal looking dudes pound 50 dogs down it's even crazier seeing this tiny asian chick doing it.

You masturbate to it, don't you!??!

Watched this the past few years, was really pumped for Chestnut last year but he came up short. With his recent downing of nearly 60 hot dogs and the Japos jaw thingy I think it's a sure thing this year. Everyone else, I don't even know why they show up. Downing 30+ hot dogs can't be any fun, and you really stand zero chance of winning.

They actually broadcast this on TV? Maybe on the Food Network? Ive never seen one of these being broadcast, just thought it made for a story on slow news day.

It was ESPN. Chestnut won by a dog. New world record or something, 64 of them.

It was 66. That was the best competition EVER. I mean, wow. I didn't think Japo would be able to keep up, but he was a machine. He ate 63!!! Fucking incredible.

Yeah it was incredible to watch. Kobayashi was behind by 2 or 3 dogs for most of the match, but towards the end he started catching up and actually had it tied briefly as the last seconds counted down.

But then he vomited a little and I believe they subtracted a dog or two from his score. Chestnut got a dog added to his score because they count what you have in your mouth when the time ends, I think.

USA! USA! Joey Chestnut is a true American hero for bringing the title back to the states.

You should watch the little special they did on "Eater X" (I think his name is Tim Jansen or something like that?).

They took him to a medical facility and strapped him to a machine to watch what happened in his stomach as he ate all the hot dogs. It was crazy, because he had actually trained his stomach to immediately expand upon eating. Most people's stomachs start to immediately break down the food and begin passing it to the small intestines. After like 20 hot dogs, none of his had even passed to the small intestines. It just kept packing in and his stomach kept growing. It was nuts watching it on the live x-ray.

I think there was controversy because Kobayashi actually has a stomach abnormality that allows him to eat so much, and other food eating competitors were having a fit.

I honestly can't understand why anyone shows any interest in this "sport."
