| Paintball There seemed to be a general derail in the IQ thread about paintball. Figured I would start a thread. What are your thoughts on paintball? When did you first play? How often? etc. For me I first started in around 1993 playing rec with some friends. Got to know the field owners and was soon playing tournaments. Played up the ranks over the years until I was playing Div 1. Gave it up when I couldn't be bothered spending more time and money to break into semi-pro in the states. |

| LOL, a valiant attempt to re-rail the IQ thread. ![]() No need to rehash my paintball inadequacies in great detail here, but as anyone who read the IQ thread knows, I am not very good at paintball. Played twice, both times on outdoor woods settings. My first time playing, a friend and I found a small bunker and basically hid in it the whole time, occasionally sneaking out to see if anyone was coming, and firing some pointless shots in their general directions before scurrying back into the bunker. The second time, I was not lucky enough to have a bunker. I was with a group of about 10 people marching through a valley with enemy fire raining down on us from over a small hill. Our position was very exposed, and our "leader" was basically a moron. I ran for the nearest tree, ducked behind it, and fired blindly into the distance. Everyone else ran off to engage the people on the hill. I remained behind in the trees and ran around hiding and firing. Eventually two or three people started opening fire on my position, and one of them managed to clip me in the ass. I had a welt the size of a quarter on my left butt cheek for about a week after that. Consequently, I haven't played paintball ever since. |

| I started playing around 1997. Played mostly woods ball with friends in middle school/high school. I started playing in tourneys but the nearest field from my house is 2 hours away (i lived in the middle of nowhere, and yes my parents still have dialup). Man, i got my ass rocked in every tournament. When I went to college i sold all my stuff. Anyways, since now Im at college i figured i would pick up a cheap gun and play a little. I bought an ion last fall and did some work to it. Havent played yet. 3 jobs and going to school, dont have much time to play. It sure as hell is fun though. |

At a practice one time I shot a buddy square in the package from about 6-7 feet. Umm, "they" bled. He puked.

| I started 4 months ago. After using a rental at a place in West Palm Beach that has a Woodsball and a few speedball courses, I went out and bought myself a Tippman X7 (because someone told me to and it was good...and I have a little money to spare on random stuff). Anyway, I am very fast, but I am not very good. I am a good, sneaky, flanker type. We only play once a month though. What I don't like about the sport are the punks and elitists. Some kid is always yelling "You suck!" at strangers out on the field, or the guys with full auto guns that want to play 4 v 11 against our group with rentals. That pissed me off, watching those guys get 6 kids under the age of 16 to play a round against them. It was pretty much 30+ year old men taking sick pleasure in putting 18 rounds/sec into other people just to inflict pain, and not really about winning. |

| I played a lot back in college. Mostly just screwing around with guys from my fraternity in places which definitely were not intended to be used as a paintball arena (read: on campus), but we had a team for whatever semi-pro tournaments happened nearby too. Never won one outright, but we did pretty well usually. In an attempt to not be like everybody else (which back then meant you had an Autococker) I used a Minimag refitted for nitrogen. Whatever it lacked in accuracy compared to a 'cocker it more than made up with the ability to dump an ungodly amount of paint in some poor bastard's direction. I have to say the best times were at rush events when we'd go a local indoor arena, and those of us with semi-autos would get to lay waste to the people who didn't normally play and were just using rental pump guns. I'm also surprised that my Mag is still in good enough shape that with just some o-rings I could probably start playing again if I found a place near me. |

I started playing back in about 96 or so. Started off with a cheap Spyder playing paintball. After a while I started playing with a semi pro team from So Cal called Team Ambush and bought an Autococker. It was a sweet gun at the time, then shit like the Angel came out and just owned anything not full auto. I stopped playing a while later because I didnt want to spend $1500 on a gun, then probably about $200 in paint a day for the gun that shoots 14 balls a second.

| Weird, I think I recognize Team Ambush. I never played in tourney's, or even at fields for that matter, but I did subscribe to APG (lol). What part of So Cal were you in? You ever shop at Ditto's? We have nearly identical timelines, too. I got a Spyder for christmas, probably in 96. I eventually upgraded to a Minimag though, and also stopped playing not real long after the Angel came out. PS mags > cockers. |
