I started playing around 1996. Played in the Zap Opens in 97 and 98. I basically started playing tourney ball around the time of the first angels. I stopped playing tournaments in 2000, and I just play rec now. We were partial sponsored by Pevs in DC for a few years.

It is such a change playing rec compared in the woods compared to Sup-Air and hyperball fields.

First gun was an Spyder, then a minimag, then an orginal angel. Now I have a 2k4 speed.

We have nearly identical timelines, too. I got a Spyder for christmas, probably in 96. I eventually upgraded to a Minimag though, and also stopped playing not real long after the Angel came out.

PS mags > cockers.
Yeah, used to shop at both shops in redlands but I havent been there for years. I dont even know if its still open. That was Team Ambush's sponsor. I live in San Bernardino.

Wow, a fair response. Really wasn't expecting alot of tournament players, but I guess FoHBB takes a decent cross section of people.

I'd say that the "golden age" of tournament paintball is long past. The current system of small airball fields does promote a more spectacular game (lets face it, 45 minute games in the woods were even boring to play let alone watch), but it also promotes a short life span. People just don't play for the lengths of time that they used to.

The costs, both physical and financial, involved in being competitive in a tournament envirionment are freaking HUGE. Even with a decent level of sponsorship, it was still costing upwards of 10k a year for practice and travel (our entries and the vast vast majority of paint was covered). Equipment costs were always negligable compared to the daily costs.

Anyways, time for more pictures.

I've never played Paintball in my life but I did/do play Airsoft. I prefer Airsoft over Paintball because I get to use realistic guns. Started playing in...'02? played for a year or two, but at the time, there was only 1 field on the whole island and it was a good 45minute drive to get there. Field has since closed down and now the only place to play is a CQB, which kind of sucks.

Since I'm a WWII buff I bought a thompson.

I think the Turtles blanket brings out the manliness.

If I ever start playing again, they make an airsoft replica of a M1 Garand now, supposedly with a dummy-clip that recreates the authentic "ping'. Would love to get my hands on one of those.

And yes, I did look into doing a Chicago mod but it ended up costing about as much as the gun did, and they don't sell the barrell drum mag anymore, I'd have had to DIY one up from a M4. The wood stock is a real bitch to aim with from behind cover and it's all metal with fake-wood plastic. Gets tiresome but it's fun as hell with my WWII parka w/ 101st patch :P

I've only ever played recreational paintball. Couple friends of mine started getting into tournament level play and they were spending $1500 on guns, $100 on paintballs for like 10 mins, it was just stupid. I'd play with them on weekends and just borrow one of their guns.

They eventually just ran out of disposable income to keep doing it. It's sad that it's just so expensive. It really is a lot of fun.

I prefer paintball over airsoft. I played airsoft with some guys from my work one time and found it to be boring. In paintball when you get hit, you can tell their hit. When you get hit with airsoft, you cant tell. I guess it is cheaper, but I just didnt think it was fun at all.

My friends stag is tomorrow and we're kicking it off with three hours of paintball.

I'm curious to see just how many rounds I can put into him before he quits.

Stag paintball games are fun. May I suggest doing some sort of running the gauntlet game with him? One time I was out at a field with my bro and a couple friends, and we got rolled into a stag party. Didn't even know the guy, but good god it was fun lighting him up as he ran from one end of their Fort field to the other. Looked like someone had poured hot oil on his back after.
