That was my thoughts when I brought it up last night, about rushing out a tribute when early reports indicated it was possible he had killed them and then himself. Do you think his wife's family and his own family who now have a nephew/grandson/etc without parents would appreciate the media airing a 3 hour tribute celebrating his wrestling career and praising him for how much he did for a fake sport?

Update

They are saying he strangled his wife then smothered his son, and a day or so later, hung himself probably in a steroid rage.

It looks like it was after Raw had been aired on the east coast before the first reports were released by the police that the deaths were murder/suicide. McMahon found out just before 3pm one of his main performers and his family was dead and he had a 3 hour show going out 6 hours later. With the information they had available then they made the call to do a tribute show, like they had done a couple of times before when other performers passed away. It was no doubt complicated by the fact they were at that point running a storyline where McMahons character had been allegedly blown to bits by a car bomb in his limo. That storyline had to be stopped immediately for obvious reasons so they couldnt have done a "On with the show" programme anyway. Watching the tribute show, almost everyone who had screentime mentioned his great love of his family etc, they must have all been presuming someone else had done it to them.

Since the news has come out about Benoits alleged actions, their website has been stripped of virtually everything to do with him other than the front page headline. Tonights tapings for ECW and Smackdown will be business as usual.

Sadly this sort of thing goes on every day across the world, unfortunately its only when its someone in the public eye that the vast majority of us get to really hear about it and briefly care about it.

I just saw the end of the press confrence, and there is something that really doesnt make sense. It might have been some sort of over sight or something.

But according to various reports last night, Benoit contacted the WWE on saturday, and sent text messages on Sunday, but acording to the Police he died on Saturday. How is that possible?

He killed his family, or at least one of them on Saturday according to the updated article and himself on Monday they believe.

Yeah something doesn't add up there. His wife is presumed to have died Friday night, but he had left Texas on Saturday due to a family emergency. I believe his son was declared dead on Sat and he on Sunday. Now, what's even more fucked up is that people said they were receiving texts from him DURING and Before Vengeance. Now, unless he hung himself after the show (completely possible as it ends by about 10:50), that doesn't leave a large window.

At this point, I'm believing that the police and the AP have no fucking clue and are making shit up as they go along because everything they're reporting contradicts the only cold hard facts that we had (he had to leave Saturday because his wife and son were sick and throwing up blood).

I have no fucking clue what's going on or what's going to happen, but as someone who has been following this since Monday afternoon, nothing lines up.

As I said, at this point, I'm refusing to believe anything the Police say and I'll go by what I hear from educated friends.

They got the news at 4 pm and then had a show scheduled at 7 pm, what would you do? They didn't know the circumstances of the deaths. They knew that one of their top guys was dead and I think they did an extremely classy move. They were shoving the whole McMahon dead thing down everybodies throat and then abandon it in respect. At that time he wasn't a child murderer, he was just a dead friend.

They've taken down all his merchandise, stricken him from the records (his Wrestlemania 20 main event match is now listed as just Shawn Michaels vs. HHH with no mention of him) and they removed the videos of Chavo/Stephanie talking about what a family man he was. They've done a ton of sleazy things over the years (continuing the ppv where Owen died, parading around Eddie Guerrero's widow, etc) but they are handling this the correct way imo.

Like I said earlier, at least I think, I probably would have cancelled the live show and just played a random rerun that didn't feature Benoit at all. Run an announcement saying that the WWE is deeply saddened by the tragedy and will assist law enforcement in any investigation to the fullest degree. That would have been fine.

But I don't think anyone is going to raise a fuss over it, they did what a lot of people thought was right. I just think they jumped the gun and apparently they did.

Yeah..the conference said he died saturday...
I guess text messages are on a 12 hour delay. Not to mention that he took a flight back from Texas on Saturday, but his wife died friday.

WrestlingNewsWorld: Report: Chris Benoit strangled wife, smother son

No one finds this odd?

No, doesn't seem odd. The other articles said he sent messages early Sunday, which was probably just before he died. If that was like 1am early, then whoever got them may have been asleep and didn't see them until morning.

Nancy Benoit filed for a divorce in May 2003, saying their three-year union was irrevocably broken and alleging "cruel treatment." But she later dropped the complaint, as well as a request for a restraining order in which she charged that Benoit had threatened her and had broken furniture in their home.

Authorities also said they found a number of drugs -- all believed to be legal -- including steroids.
It makes sense to me. In a steroid rage, he killed his wife,
and then his son. Later, he realized what he did, and probably out of grief killed himself.

Hes a scumbag.

I'm asking this out of ignorance but..

Do roids really do that to people? I dont know because I've never really talked to someone about it before that has taken them, but do they really screw you up that much that you'd kill your family?

It's not called 'roid rage because it's cute.

Right, I dont know what it can do to you I guess. Probably time for me to wiki it.

One of the most common misconceptions regarding the side effects of anabolic steroids is known as ‘roid rage’. There seems to be little or no evidence such a condition actually exists. Some early studies done have shown a slight correlation between manic symptoms and anabolic steroid use,[66] however more comprehensive and recent studies have brought into question their methodology and conclusions. The majority of recent studies done on "angry behavior" and anabolic steroid use show no psychological effect, implying that either "roid rage" does not exist or that anabolic steroids' effects on aggression are too small to be measured. Harvard researcher Harrison Pope, M.D. stated “With regard to the ‘roid rage’ issue, my first reaction as a scientist, obviously, is that ‘roid rage’ is a meaningless term that simply arose in popular parlance”. Many scientists and medical professionals have concluded anabolic steroids have no real effect on increased aggressive behavior
Now I dont know what to think

Roid Rage yes could drive someone to the extreme. However from what I have read, it could have been a combination of painkillers that drove him to that extreme. But really who knows.

There is alot more to this story than what is being released. Because the timeline atm doesnt make sense at all if infact he did Message his friends(chavo, ect) during the Vengance PPV which was held Sunday night.
