+36 Internets | Americas Cup Boo, no thread on the Americas Cup? I suppose it's on fairly early in the US, but it's a huge spectacle. Might already be over tomorrow/today (Sunday) though. Switzerland's leading against New Zealand 4:2, it's best of 9. (first to 5 wins) Never watched sailing before, but this is pretty fun... plus Switzerland's actually good at it. A landlocked country owning at sailing, go figure. ![]() ![]() Kiwis losing one of their own ![]() ![]() The cup: ![]() So, uhh... bring it home guys! ![]() |

+11 Internets | It's uh, boats. You'll notice there's not even a NASCAR thread here, and that's a pretty popular sport here. Boats stand almost no chance=P At least til America actually competes again.

+14 Internets | Sailing, contrary to what you might think, is actually a very intense sport both physically and mentally. Racing, especially at night, is both addictive as hell and fun as shit. It can also give you a healthy respect for mother nature. My father bought his first sailboat when I was 14 and I've been sailing for 20 years, racing for about 15 and I absolutely love it. If you ever have the opportunity to sail, take it. They can be huge money-sinks though, especially if you rig them for racing instead of cruising. (I don't own a boat, I'm not that rich). The good news is, you don't have to be rich to get on a crew, most people who crew don't own a boat themselves... they just know someone who does. |

| jesus christ, we won ! that ending was so tight, it was epic. Team New-Zealand was on their penalty drive around and Alinghi passed them by with like a 2second margin, close as hell. So anyways, it was pretty huge here since the boat has been partially built here (SFIT), naked chicks, booze and lots of clapping =p

+15 Internets | It was an amazing event. Usualy it's pretty boring since in 90% of the cases the boat winning the first leg wins the race and in 32 editions the score has been 5-0 27 times! Not much this time, so it was both nerve wrecking and very spectacular. Without a doubt one of the most photogenic and "cinegenic" sport. The 33rd might be back to being boring because they will change the regulations for the boats (current one have been set in 1994) so the engineering phase will again weight more in the balance (aka potential big difference from one ship to another, ending in 5-0 unless something breaks or someone does something very stupid). PS: Switzerland has many big (and small) lakes hence a solid sailing tradition (the only swiss guy on the ship was the owner though).
