| Romo is a manwhore | And I bet they barely make the playoffs this year. They had the worst record in the league last year and that was with Forsberg up until they traded him. Briere is an impact player, but he's not THAT much of an impact player. What else have they done which might put them in a position that's worth talking about? |

Karyia signing with the blues suprised me. I thought there was no way in hell he'd sign with a non cup contender. |

| Romo is a manwhore | Sabres had a news conference with the GM and the Managing partner where the basic question was, "Why did you let them go?" With Briere, they kind of skated the issue but I get the sense that he was being a money player and wanted the big deal. Sabres were unwilling to play that game. With Drury, they outright said they were willing to match every offer that came in, but never got the chance. Drury got the offer from the Rangers and took it. He lives nearby there in Connecticut so it was a chance to be with a winning team while also being really close to home. Oh well. |

| At this point, I am almost certain that Neidermayer and Selanne are going to retire with the two signings they made. The Bertuzzi signing was weird though. I guess Burke likes him still and he plays that rough forward Ducks hockey they need. |

Overall, I'm extremely disapointed with Kevin Lowe. We come out of this with a mediocre trade (I think we should have kept Lupul, that will bite him in the ass down the road when he's a consistent 40 goal guy), a couple of minor signings, and that's pretty much it. We got a puck moving defenseman, but gave up arguably our best stay at home guy, and team captain to boot. We still need a first line center (how the fuck did Nylander get away, Kevin?), and a #1 defenseman. At least we have lots of cap room!

I guess all that you can hope is that Keenan comes in and crushes the Flames. At least that way the whole province can go back to having shitty teams.

+37 Internets | Heh, these days 3 million a year is a 3rd line player or a #4 defenseman. This salary cap thing has worked out not too bad for the union, in the end. Salaries are back up to where they were prior to the lockout, although methinks the end of the 07/08 season will see a large escrow payment from the PA to the NHL, at which point the 90% of union members and general public who have no idea what the escrow system is will go "oh snap!" It certainly helps that the half dozen Canadian franchises, financially fairly healthy even 5 years ago, have essentially seen their revenues jump by upwards of 50% because of the exchange rate. I'd be curious to know exactly how much revenue that's worth to the NHL as a whole. |
