Hey sorry for just diving in here, I don't have much interest in MMA and haven't read the thread. But could anyone tell me the name of that awesome Japanese guy who does the robot in the middle of fights and shit? I think he's since retired. Bonus points if you have any good video links. I think there was one of him fighting Butterbean that was pretty awesome.

Yeah, but you had to listen to Frank Trigg orgasm randomly. Replace McCarthy and Trigg with Couture and Mir and you got perfect commentary.

BJM did good and I don't mind Trigg. To get the perfect booth you need Mauro, Bas, and BJM.

Alvarez/Kawajiri fight was the best fight at the event and could also go for fight of the year. Like Bas said "This is like a Rocky movie!". Both fighters showed heart and gave sweet exchanges. This, Hansen/Gill and the final match are the only matches worth watching. The whole event was pretty boring. That intermission is so fucking stupid.

Fun new info on Rampage. Possibly all BS. Apparently he has decided he is God and was on a 4 day fast before the first arrest.

Fightlinker.com » Blog Archive » Rampage “thinks he is God”

Link includes last interview he did before the crazy kicked in.

From Dana White.

Quote:
Rampage is … uuuuh. It’s not good right now. I think it’s going to be a while before we get him back. I’m talking as a friend. It’s a sensitive issue. He’s getting a mental evaluation right now, they have an initial 72 hour hold … they’re keeping him longer.

He got bailed out, and as soon as he walked out the door, I said “Holy shit.” Rampage, the UFC fighter, who cares about that. We’re concerned about Rampage, the human being. What matters is his personal life.

If Rampage never fought again, who cares about that. We’re concerned about the man right now. He was up for four days and he was doing some crazy fasting thing. He was up for four days, drinking water and energy drinks, that was it. It’s not good. Rampage doesn’t do drugs. Rampage really doesn’t even drink. This whole thing made no sense to me. (Then) when I got there it made a lot of sense.

Dream 5 was fucking awesome. I will always hold the opinion the semi's and the finals should always be on different shows and not on the same night.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Fucking BS Alvarez didn't get a shot at being the first Dream Champ.

The guys in charge must be hella pissed Aoki didn't get the belt. I feel for Aoki, but being one dimensional always bites you in the ass at some point.

I liked most of Dream 5.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Eddie Alvarez is rapidly becoming one of my favorite fighters. I was not a big fan back in his Bodog days, but he's just kept right on improving. His transitions are way better now. And dude has heart for days. Sucks ass for him that he couldn't fight Aoki because of the eye, but I'm kinda glad because it means we'll get to see another war with him and Hellboy.

And fuck yeah Hellboy! Was pumped to see him win. He was close to getting gogoplata'd again, that would have been embarassing. Didn't see any good angles on the punch he landed that started the end=/ Only the one from behind Aoki. Was also nice to see Hansen immediately say he wants his first defense to be against Alvarez after the fight. Damn nice arm bar on mamba too.

Mark Hunt still needs to work on his ground game. But his "takedown" on Overeem was nice. Looked like a big brother shoving a little brother to the ground with 1 hand. Nice modified Kimura(?) finish by Alistair though. That arm was about as isolated as it can be while still attached.

Over all a decent show. Bit too much time wasted between bouts etc, but most of the main fights did not disappoint.

STUFF!

Affliction salaries.

Quote:
The California State Athletic Commission on Monday released the fighter salary information for Affliction “Banned,” featuring Fedor Emelianenko vs. Tim Sylvia, which took place on Saturday, July 19, at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.

The following figures are based on the fighter salary information that promoters are required by law to submit to the state athletic commissions, including the winners' bonuses.

Although mixed martial arts fighters do not have collective bargaining or a union, the fighters' salaries are still public record, just as with every other major sport in the United States. Any undisclosed bonuses that a promoter also pays its fighters, but does not disclose to the athletic commissions (specifically, pay-per-view bonuses, fight of the night bonuses, etc.), are not included in the figures below.

In the listings below, "Main Event Fighters" are defined as fighters who compete in the main event of a show. "Main Card Fighters" are defined as fighters whose fights appear on the main card, but not in the main event. "Preliminary Card Fighters" are defined as fighters whose matches take place before the live broadcast goes on the air, regardless of whether or not those matches end up airing on the TV or Internet broadcast.

MAIN EVENT FIGHTERS

– Fedor Emelianenko ($300,000/no win bonus) def. Tim Sylvia ($800,000)

MAIN CARD FIGHTERS

– Andre Arlovski ($750,000/$250,000 win bonus) def. Ben Rothwell ($250,000)

– Josh Barnett ($300,000/no win bonus) def. Pedro Rizzo ($70,000)

– Mark Hominick ($10,000/win bonus was $5,000) def. Savant Young ($7,000)

– Renato “Babalu” Sobral ($90,000/win bonus was $30,000) def. Mike Whitehead ($50,000)

– Matt Lindland ($300,000/win bonus was $75,000) def. Fabio “Negao” Nascimiento ($20,000)

– Antonio Rogerio Nogueira ($50,000/no win bonus) def. Edwin Dewees ($15,000)

– Mike Pyle ($20,000/win bonus was $5,000) def. J.J. Ambrose ($5,000)

PRELIMINARY CARD FIGHTERS

– Vitor Belfort ($140,000/win bonus was $70,000) def. Terry Martin ($30,000)

– Paul Buentello ($80,000/win bonus was $20,000) def. Gary Goodridge ($25,000)

– Justin Levens ($6,000) vs. Ray Lizama ($3,000)*

*Bout did not take place. Total pay was negotiated.
Paid ticket sales were just over 2 million $. Salaries were over 3.3 mil.

Yushin Okami broke his hand. Now it looks like Anderson Silva will be killing Patrick Cote in his next title defense at UFC 88 in September.

And Jens Pulver will be fighting Leonard Garcia at WEC36 in September. Garcia was cleared of the cocaine ring charges.

I always thought Sylvia looked like a can, and was boggled by his success. Yet with some of the wonky outcomes that've happened in recent memory, I was a bit worried about the outcome.

If I could giggle, I'd have been giggling at the end of that match.

With the way people get inside on Sylvia (Couture, Fedor, Monson, and even Vera with the clinch) Im convinced he suffers from tall man vantage point syndrome. Tim has NEVER thrown his jab to stop someone from closing the distance, and he never backs up to create space again to counter-attack. Watch anyone close the distance on Tim, hes always non-responsive and confused, like he was taken by surprise. Never moves backwards and his arms barely react. Tim always talks about using his reach advantage, but Ive never seen him able to react and keep anyone from rushing him. Its really an anomaly since that should be one of his strengths on paper with his reach/height. Well I

As for Anthony Johnson, the great thing about Japan is that would be ruled a no-contest after the fact. In the States, I don't think any ref decision can be overturned so that sucks for him.

The Anthony Johnson ref screw-job reminds me of Mirko v Kongo. 5 knees direct to the balls from Kongo's big ass and no penalty after repeated warnings.

Commission salary reports are never that accurate. There are too many bonuses and other payment methods that the Commission doesn't report.

Fedor probably received a million dollar signing bonus paid to him in some other way so he wouldn't get taxed to living shit for being a foreigner.
