Fujita has accomplished what exactly. He clipped Fedor with a grazing counter shot and rocked him badly. I haven't seen anyone land a bomb on Fedor since then. Fedor just doesn't get hit flush. I still consider Fedor's chin highly suspect. If Rogers hits him, hes going out.

Take the fucking block off your shoulder already, all you do is shit up threads with your pompous bullshit. Fuck. Anyone who says that having a chin doesn't matter, is a fucking idiot. Whether its Heavyweights or not, having the threshold to absorb punches during a fight is a factor. EDIT: And jayrebb made a good point about Fedor. Roy Jones was forever considered the perfect fighter. No one EVER talked about his chin because he was always in a favorable position. But as soon as his reflexes started to deteriorate, and someone hit him flush, he folded like a fucking lawn chair.

+27 Internets | Not to derail your guys' awesome discussion, but I just watched the Gonzaga/Tuscherer fight, and I really don't see what the big fuss is about. The kick was pretty clearly accidental, and Tuscherer and his corner had every opportunity to stop the fight and win by DQ. If anything, I blame the medical staff for not calling it when he started dry heaving. As for the punches to the back of the head, I only saw one solid punch to the back of the head, the other 3 to 4 were the typical glancing side shots that always happen in that position. |

+75 Internets | I think the only people to blame are the medical staff really if you think the fight should be stopped. The fighters will almost always continue if they can stand (and sometimes when they can't...) The refs can and should defer to the medical staff. The rules state that no coaching should be done during their rest period (Thus Lesnar or Tuscherer's other coaches couldn't come in and get any information to call the fight). The medical staff has to say whether or not the fighter should continue. Were they wrong? I don't know. I don't know if he sustained any serious injuries and I don't think that fight necessarily hurts his career BECAUSE of the nut shot. He'll probably get another fight on the undercard, and hopefully not against someone of Gonzaga's caliber. What this really does is reinforce the idea that if you want to win a fight, just do kicks to the inside thigh until you get lucky and 'accidently' kick him in the nuts, or jab at him with your finger out-stretched. It's okay if you get a point taken away, because they won't stop the fight and if you're quick enough and have mirgliotta or mazagotti as your ref you can probably just beat them while they're screaming for the ref to stop the fight. ![]() ![]() ![]() I'm not sure what the solution to that is really. Kicks/knees to the leg/torso are very valid but risk getting the nuts, fighters sometimes have to keep their hands open and they have to strike the head, risking eye pokes. +27 Internets | I agree with all that. It's not as simple as just automatically taking a point though like JayRebb seems to think. That will just create a chilling effect on two totally valid aspects of the game in kneeing and leg kicks. Maybe there should be more protection in the region? Is there anything else more effective than just a cup? As for eye pokes, that's another one that's hard to stop. Would make the gloves more like mittens be an option? Basically take the gloves as they are now, and add a light stretchable fabric over the fingers. I can't think of any major side effects of this that couldn't be resolved with proper testing. It wouldn't stop thumbs going in the eye, but at least you'd cut the fingers out of the equation. |
