+45 Internets | How was it not completely obvious to all you experts that Silva's entire gameplan was to get Cote attacking and counterpunch his face off? He started off waiting for the attack, then started trying harder to force it, and finally he was dropping his hands and sticking his chin out and begging for Cote to attack. God knows it didn't work out great or make for super exciting fighting, but it was a very obvious gameplan and not pointless showboating. I could see Silva fighting Chuck just because he's planning to retire. He should really take nothing but big showcase fights. And almost all of those are at 205 unfortunately. Chuck may be washed up, but he's still a huge name and draw. He's not really concerned with the LHW belt, as he's said in the past he thinks it's rightfully Machida's. And they're pals. Maynard put on a wrestling exhibition. And it wasn't on purpose. He was trying to posture up, tried taking Clementi's back, tries moving to position for subs. Clementi was just tying him up and keeping him from doing it. Was just a bad mixture of good ground defense vs. a vastly superior wrestler. You could see at the end Maynard looked fucking depressed. Like he'd just been KO'd or something. Dos Santos' shovel punch was epic=) edit: BTW Cote's knee looks like the same injury I have. Where occasionally if I put pressure on the leg at the exact wrong angle the kneecap just pops out to the side and down some. You could see on that last close up replay where it looked like he suddenly had 2 kneecaps on one knee. Hurts like a motherfucker but only for a few seconds. Straighten the leg out and it pops back in to place and everything feels pretty much kosher. Of course, I'm not getting kicked in it right after either. Couple notes from Kos/Alves: Alves is an animal, but it looked like he let him go a couple times when he might have been able to put the fight away. And how has no one mentioned those leg kicks yet? They were vicious, could see by the 3rd that Koscheck had lost all explosiveness because of them and was totally twitchy. Not sure why Alves didn't use that to set up a couple more tries at the Superman punch, or just a right high kick, as soon as he moved that back leg Kos was dropping hands and pulling up his left leg to defend. Koscheck's striking is definitely still improving, but he's becoming kinda predictable. Though I do love the little switch kick he throws when he does it right. Someone has to pull him aside and tell him to lay off the side kicks though. The other thing I like is that he used the fence as part of his combos a couple times. One time he just pushed Alves in to the cage with both hands and threw a big knee at him as he rebounded. Nothing amazing, but was cool to see.

+45 Internets | New post because other stuffs. Robbie Lawler will supposedly be a free agent within a few days. If the UFC doesn't find a way to sign him and get him a title shot within his first 2 fights they are fucking motards. He won't beat Silva probably, but he'll damn sure make a better show of it than Cote did. The UFC heavyweight picture is starting to look a lot less bleak. They've aggressively gone out and signed a bunch of younger/newer talent lately and it seems like it's going to work in the long term. Worldwide the HW division has been desperate for some new blood for a few years now. With the UFC out there grabbing every promising prospect they can get their hands on(FINALLY), it bodes well for the division down the road. Carwin/Dos Santos/Velasquez may not be ready to be champions right now, but they look like they'll shore up the division nicely for a few years to come. Between them, the big 3(Mir + Lesnar only count as 1 combined still), Kongo, Hardonk, and Werdum's reanimated corpse, the UFC has what should be the best HW division in the world before too long. Once Affliction folds, though they are top heavy with 4-5 serious guys and then nothing much.

+33 Internets | I'm down to watch Silva fight every UFC :-p But he should go to 205 and stay there. Dan will be next champ, then probably retire and rich will pick it back up. Beat Forrest, beat Rashad, beat Chuck, Beat Jardine, Lose to a Japanese guy by weird/rare submission then retire. ![]()
