No clue there. My guess is that despite the multiple warnings about eye pokes, the ref was at the wrong angle for that last one. Either way it was a BS ending for a rather boring fight.

Affliction had a great show last night. I enjoyed most of the fights and got to see Fedor and Arlovski both fight. Here's to hoping they put another great card or two together to pull in some regular fans who only know the UFC. Competition for ratings will really help the sport and maybe keep some of the shittier cards from being put together. My buddy had never seen Fedor fight before so I was a little disappointed that it ended so quickly, I was hoping for some more ground game before the inevitable submit.

As an aside, I loved the show Megadeath put on as well, they brought back memories from highschool lol.

I want to know the exact same thing. There must be some rule about the judges/ref using instant replay to impact the outcome of the fight, because the ref didn't call the eye gouge at the time. The dude just went down, the other guy and the ref both kinda shrugged, then he called time out but didn't call the gouge.

I'm curious to know what happens. I know you can protest the outcome, and I can't imagine this guy letting a loss like that stay on his record.

So after watching Affliction it reminded me how much the ring bothers me. The constant restarts is just annoying. I know they were saying the ring actually favors those with more skill on the ground, but I guess I just don't see it. Is the big difference just because you can't be pushed up against the cage?

Also, Goldberg still sucks! And I quote: "and his precision is just so.....precise"

while watching the UFC last night, my wife made an interesting observation. towards the end of the night, there were several 'male enhancement' commercials. she asked why and I said I guess it's because some men may feel inferrior or inadequite while watching these fighters. she asked if I did and I said hell no, I know I can reinstall windows faster then any of them.

Overall, great night of fights.

I was not impressed by the UFC's dick move. I really enjoyed the Afflication card, and I am willing to put up with Frank Trigg instead of Goldy.

I remember Fedor's people saying he will fight again in October. Isn't this around when Couture will be available to fight?

The ring is more favorable to a strong ground game than the cage because the cage can be used as support against a takedown. If you drive an opponent backwards into the cage, it'll support them and keep them up. Drive them against the ropes, and they'll go down a lot easier.

So yeah, pretty much what you said.

Unless half the takedowns end up with both fighters outside the ropes and causes a restart=/

The Arlovski/Rothwell fight was awesome. I was really pulling for Big Ben, but seeing some old school Arlovski is just great. God I hope he sticks with it like this for awhile. Maybe another Sambo practitioner can give Fedor a run for his money=P Of course the man also wins like every Sambo tourney he enters, so probably not.

Just watched both cards, and apparently I'm the only one who the the Affliction card was really underwhelming. A lot of the fights were boring, the announcing was horrible (Buffer had zero enthusiasm, Big John isn't a TV personality and all the ring-side announcers were annoying as fuck) and the camera work was shitty. All the Affliction card did was make me appreciate the UFC more. Overall I thought the cards were really even entertainment-wise, which isn't a good sign for Affliction considering the stacked card they had. Everyone else I watched it with agreed, but apparently we're in the minority.

The Fedor fight was awesome, mainly because I hate Sylvia, but it still kind of sucked seeing it over so quickly.

The Silva fight was awesome, but again, wish it would've lasted a bit longer. Anyone else see that cut on Irvin though? That was disgustingly huge. I wish it was a PPV fight so we could've gotten a closer look at it.

That Burns/Johnson fight was bullshit. I don't know what the fuck the refs/judges were thinking or how they came to their decision. It should've been a win for Johnson or at least a no contest. I hope that gets reversed.

I had the exact opposite reaction to you, re: Affliction. I look at that event as a showcase of MMA's ability to be a legitimate sport. UFC, in comparison, is too dramatic and meat head. I'd trade the enthusiasm of Goldy and Rogan for some actual intelligence any day of the week.
