| Pride Never Die | Mixed martial arts show with Kimbo Slice scores big in Los Angeles - Los Angeles Times I thought the EliteXC was good despite the lame ending to the lawler fight, but a doctor will always cover their ass when you tell them "you can't see". It's something you never say to the ringside doctor. I do not buy into the CBS "had them stop all the fights early because of the violence" excuse. This isn't japan were they can get away with this shit. I especially liked that CBS didn't break between rounds...UFC shows commercials every chance they can get(even on PPV's) and their shows suffer for it production wise. All I see now is the UFC fanboi's lining up to trash the EliteXC show any chance they can get. MMA needs competition between org's because having UFC the only North American promotion will doom MMA eventually over here.

| I definitely believe CBS coerced those officials into stopping those fights. The athletic doctors and commissions have always been corrupt. Even if they were not corrupt CBS could have suggested certain doctors that were more sensitive to stopping fights.Ya'll notice the Doc was a woman? Memo from CBS probly went something like this " If its even close to someone getting injured badly, STOP IT" Ground and Pound fights can be pretty bloody.I'm not saying that stand up fights are not..just saying that CBS was probly hoping it would be more boxing then arm breaks, and sitting on someone wailing away at there face. Did anyone notice before the first fight started, the mat was covered in blood? The first match was so bloody they didn't even show it. Its not always going to be like that, just for the first couple of shows there going to need the mass public to be slowly integrated into the violence of the MMA,and it is violent. Once the public gets desensitized I am sure it will be exactly the same as its Showtime originator minus the Bikini girls =((

| Like Araxen said, he said he couldn't see. The doctor HAS to stop the fight at that point. As a fighter, he should know that the fight is over when he says that. The Kimbo stoppage was probably a bit premature, and I agree they were probably sensitive to the network audience and it wouldn't surprise me if they told the ref to use extra caution. I can't completely blame the ref, since Thompson looks like he's out on his feet every time he gets punched in the head. |

As for the Thompson stoppage, he was kinda out of it and combined with that fucked up ear it wasn't that bad. I was more pissed off with what happened in the last 2 minutes of the 2nd round. There needs to be a better standard to when a ref should step in when a fighter isn't intelligently defending himself.

+2 Internets | I guess I'm being to much of an optimist to think that their was no coercion but deep down it would not surprise me. It is funny that it is ok to show extremely violent television shows but controlled violence between "real" people is not allowed. I think part of the stoppages (I did not see the women fight) was to protect their marketing tools as much as it was for CBS to not show extreme violence on TV. Had Kimbo lost, they would probably lose millions. Had the American Gladiator woman lost, same deal. I'm sure CBS is going to have more shows so I guess they succeeded. In terms of the Lawler/Smith fight, I don't have a copy of the audio but I think he said "I can't see right now. Give me my five minutes and I'll be fine." What was the harm of giving him his full five minutes and then having the doctor re-assess. |

+1 Internets | Young did look horrible. Huge black eye, bleeding from her nose. They showed one quick shot of her and then completely ignored her. After that it seems like CBS started to get gun shy on how much they were going to show. Was pretty shitty overall...they should have gotten some lightweights in there and let them show there quick moves and transitions, would have looked much better.

| Two things. A: Colon has to be a fantastic last name. B: doesn't that scorecard show Thompson winning every round, or do I not know how these things go?

I also find it funny nobody refers to his as Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson. The score cards even referenced "Slice." That would be like Chuck Liddell only being called "The Iceman" with no reference to his actual name.
