Dude, were you not a little impressed with kimbos ground defense in the first to the middle of the second round? Seriously he was never on the ground before and I thought he did damn fine. Fucking critical prick. Yah his stamina is not what it should be and there is no way in hell he would last 5 rounds for a title belt, but like he said he has a lot to learn. Go bas on giving him a decent ground game platform to start from.

CBS held the refs and meds at gunpoint with this. JFC what a fucking sham with such a good card.

And wtf with no stats on reach.. does no one have an answer on this?

Both stoppages were bullshit.

Thompson was dazed but that had happened in both rounds and he stayed in it just fine. Just look at that gif, pretty much the instant that fight was stopped Thompson was pissed. If it was anyone besides Kimbo the fight would've been stopped in the second round. Thompson was on top of him in the same position landing unchecked blows for 2-3 minutes. Regardless of whether or not they shots were hurting him, he didn't move an inch to defend himself, because he couldn't. Now I didn't want to see the fight stopped with Kimbo on the ground either, but when you give one guy so much leeway you have to give the other guy the same amount. This fight really showed how vulnerable Kimbo is to any jackass that has a clue about taking someone down. I don't think the fight was fixed in any way, but I wouldn't be surprised if the ref didn't get a few extra instructions beforehand. Also, holy fuck was Thompson's ear nasty; I didn't realize cauliflower ear could get so bad.

Gina Carano is badass and beautiful as usual.

I think the UFC's presentation is better. Less "entertainment" bullshit like dancers and long flashy introductions and better commentary.

Anyway I don't know if this is gonna last, UFC is so much better.
Of course UFC is better its the premere league. WTF did you expect? It has to start somewhere. IMO they did a damned fine job. As i said, before, the presentation was to notch for this.

Just got home so I missed the live showing. Why the hell wasn't Thompson's ear drained before the fight? You think someone somewhere would of been like 'hey, dude, your ear is gonna explode, lets drain it!'

The whole fight was kinda bull, hopefully Thompson gets a rematch somewhere down the line.

Now I go hunt down a video of the Lawler fight.

Decent ground game platform to start from? He's been training for 2-3 years, and he's 34. He's not some young pup fresh out of the gym. He's supposedly been training his ass off, he should have basic ground defense by now. He got crucifixed BY JAMES MOTHERFUCKING THOMPSON! Repeatedly. He wasn't fighting a Gracie, or a wrestler, or anything in that league. James Thompson is a career journeyman whose entire career is based on standing and swinging away. No ground game whatsoever. And he absolutely dominated Bas' prized pupil on the ground. "critical prick" ? I didn't realize this was the RAH RAH Kimbo thread, my bad. Dude needs a good BJJ guy to take him aside for about 6 months and do nothing but ground work and conditioning.

His stamina is better than it was when he got beat by Sean Gannon in that ridiculous fight awhile back, but from the beginning of the 2nd on you could see he drained the tank.

I like watching Kimbo fight, but if you came out of watching this fight with nothing but praise(which you apparently did), you are a tool.

Seems like if your fighting on Network TV and you bleed in anyway you're fucked.

Agreed, Gina is fucking hot. I'm just sick of the UFC's gladiator stuff, they need to mix it up. The promos for the fights and the entrances were awesome. I've never been to a live UFC event, I don't know what goes on between matches, but at least the girls provided some entertainment.

Dude my fiancee couldn't even look at the ear lol. I'm not a medical expert, but wouldn't it have been better for him to get it drained beforehand? Ya know--rather than getting it popped by a punch.

I think even if they did drain his ear it would fill right back up, iirc. He was fucked either way. He needs to wear some headgear when he trains his wrestling if his ears get that bad.

Good to know Brett Rogers called Kimbo out at the press conference...claiming Kimbo tapped and calling the fight garbage. Maybe that'll be the next headliner for the two.

I absolutely hated the "production value." If I want to see that kind of shit (wtf a fighter stripping off his robe before he gets in the ring? good thing he got knocked the fuck out. and "accompanied by busta rhymes!!" give me a break) I would watch TNA Impact.

I want to die in Gina Carano's guard.

This^
You can't give a guy credit for not defending himself intelligently on the ground (I'm glad they didn't stop it there) but stop the fight for the other guy when he's still fucking standing. You can't have it both ways. Thompson was wobbled, just like he was earlier in the fight right before getting a takedown. Kimbo probably would have finished it there, but the ref should have let it get to that point because it wasn't finished when he stopped it. I didn't realize refs are now going to stop fights after a few punches that just wobble a fighter.

Was anyone else lucky enough to be in a state where instead of this event showing on CBS, we got some Children's Network telethon?

my local cable has 3 CBS stations, 2 of them (VA,KY) showed it, the one from TN had the telethon.
judging by the amount low rent ads running during the show i guess they were not planning on getting good ratings.
