I loved this start to the season, so much better than them just picking guys without seeing them fight. They got some serious scrappers. Also, I laughed my ass off when Rampage told Riggs "OK just ride it out and try to win the next round" after how sloppy he was.

+11 Internets | Making the 32 guys fight in front of the coaches > Having 16 guys work out around them for a few hours. This way they get to see who really wants it and who is just talk. Before, from what I can tell, they just had open auditions and Dana basically would pick 16 guys based on interviews and maybe talking to a few people. The one guy(the crazy tall lightweight black guy) admitted during the show that he lied about his record to get in the house. He said he was 6-0 or something when he really only had 1 fight. At least with the new set up the coaches get to see them fight, and no one can just bullshit their way in to the house. About the hook thing: There was an episode of Sports Science where they broke down a head to head baseball collision between Johnny Damon and Damien Jackson, they explained why Damon was concussed and just generally fucked up and Jackson was pretty much OK. It's because Damon's head was hit at an angle, the head is relatively well built for straight on hits, but when the head is hit at an angle and twists your brain basically rattles around in your skull. +20 Internets | I heard somewhere that Dana White and the UFC only get to pick about half of the fighters and the other half are chosen by SpikeTV. No idea how true that is but if it was it would help explain how people like Blake Bowmen get on the show. YAMMA is on tonight... |
