The Houston Alexander stoppage made sense, he went stiff. You could make an argument about Karo but its such a toss up about that one there is really no point to hashing it out.

I don't watch TUF, but if I had to pick from the few fighters I know I'd pick Gerald Harris. Maybe Mike Dolce second if he's improved since his time in the IFL.

I have no problem with the Karo stoppage. Yeah maybe the ref could of let Karo get punched in the face a few more times, but I think that's true for most fights.

His legs buckle like he's out of it and then he eats three shots with no defense. Maybe it's a bias because I wanted to see Karo lose his "more guaranteed" fight but I think it was a good stop.

I thought the Lauzon stoppage was a bit premature. Florian was definitely controlling him completely, but he wasn't landing anything significant. Why say you have to "intelligently defend" yourself if you're still going to stop it when someone is doing that. I figure eventually something would have gotten through and made a stoppage warranted, but as it was the only thing wrong with Lauzon was that he was tired. On the other end, Florian looked really good.

I thought both of the other 2 stoppages were warranted though. Alexander may have recovered almost instantly, but it's not the ref's job to predict the future, he has to stop it or not based on what is happening right then. I only pointed it out because of Rogan's obvious bias. He even said about Karo after he got up and was OK "See, he's totally fine" or something like that. After seeing Alexander walking around fine immediately after the stoppage "Sure you feel OK now but..."

As for TUF, CB Dolloway is the only fighter I really knew of coming in, so I guess I'm sticking with him as my pick.

Florian/Lauzon stop kinda annoyed me too. Basically stoppage by dominate position. Why bother risking losing position attempting a sub, or even being thrown off balance by punching hard when you can toss out a bunch of baby arm punches and force the ref to make a move.

That said, I understand why they stopped it. That shit probably looks pretty bad to alot of people, and Lauzon stopped bucking his hips. If he would of kept trying improve his position I think they would of let it go on.

Arlovski's stoppage of O'Brien was kinda similar. He wasn't hurt and Arlovski knew it, but he basically looked at the ref and made it look like he didn't want to hurt the guy anymore and it was stopped. I think that's the fight I'm thinking of anyways.

Improving your position is part of "Intelligently Defending" yourself. If your just lying there turtling the referee is going to stop it at some point.

Yeah, the ref let that go on for a LONG time before he finally stopped it (when Lauzon finally stopped trying to escape).

I didn't have a problem with any of the stoppages, although I do think the ref could've waited a second or two longer to give Karo an opportunity to try to do something (considering he was attempting to protect his head). But Joe Rogan seems biased to what I assume are his buddies, which is annoying.

Karo is a fucking badass. First fight I have seen him lose. I didnt mind the stoppage. He caught a wicked knee. Shit happens. This wont hurt him long term.

I think I laughed more in that first episode of this season's TUF than all of the other seasons combined. Rampage and Forrest are hilarious. Really looking forward to the rest of the season.

Also, Anthony Johnson looked amazing in his fight. Super quick and powerful, that knockout was brutal. I think Tommy Speer was out for a good 30 seconds after that.

He seemed pretty pissed at the stoppage. I hope he comes back from this, as I have always liked him as well.

There was alot of people pissed off at the stoppages. Entire night was ok but if there wasnt so many "what if" moments it would have been great.

Anyone else catch Joe's usage of the term "Rape Choke"? My girlfriend and I started cracking up when he said that. Reminded me a bit of his standup where he talks about if only you could hear the difference between his internal commentary on the fight and what he actually has to say. I wish Dana would just give him the green light to say whatever he wanted. "OH SHIT SON, HE'S TAKING THAT ARM HOME WITH HIM!"

I heard that as well but I couldn't tell if it was "rape choke" or "rake choke." I thought it was funny and forgot about it. Apparently the closed captioning read "rake choke." Either way it's probably the name of that type of choke, although it may be slang.

Edit - Rape Choke - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia hahaha
