How come no comments on Frank's "gameplan" besides mine? Seriously, this is like the supposed planning master and he decided it would be a great idea to just stand with Cung the whole fight? He looked like an idiot.

Frank wanted to prove he could beat him standing and his ego wouldn't let him do it any other way. That's the only realistic explanation for it.

Of course if you're paranoid you could say Frank kept the fight standing in order to give the fans a good show. Win or lose he knew if the fight was exciting the hype for the rematch would be huge. Greed > Ego.

Not that I actually believe that crap. He did get some clean shots in and a couple of times Cung looked a little dazed. He probably just really wanted that KO win. Then his arm got broken.

Just watched the card, pretty good all around, but the Shamrock/Le fight was awesome. That said, Frank is a moron for not taking it to the ground in the third round, he was just getting picked apart.

This would likely never happen (at least anytime soon), but I'd love to see a Le/Anderson Silva match. More realistically, it would be nice if they'd match Le up with someone who will actually make an effort to test out his ground game.

I just don't see how Silva wouldn't absolutely dismantle him. Frank was able to stand with him for 3 rounds, and Frank's stand up doesn't hold a candle up to the Spider's.

NEWS:

UFC and ESPN/ABC to partner up?

Quote:
MMAPayout’s Adam Swift is reporting UFC and ESPN execs are rumored to have met recently regarding a “strategic partnership”:

While Spike is the official cable home of the UFC, there is no longer an ABC Sports division, only ESPN on ABC, leading to speculation that such a partnership could lead to live events on ABC.

Swift applied a giant “unconfirmed” sticker to the report, but on its face this type of partnership is along the lines of the long-term, big picture thinking Zuffa brass has shown a penchant for. ESPN and ABC both are high-profile networks under the Disney Co. banner and reach a potentially higher number of households than the EliteXC/CBS-SHOWTIME or Strikeforce/NBC deals. Both are available in almost all basic packages, traditionally cater to varying demographics and are highly-regarded in sports programming and production.

On a more subjective note, a clearly defined MMA segment on ESPN’s news programs will score a ton of legitimacy points. SportsCenter is the gold standard of sports news programming and already touches on most big-time MMA events. The regular insertion of MMA-centric segments would go a long away in the wider acceptance of a misunderstood and much-maligned combat sport.

Of course, Dana White and Co.’s track record with the major network is dodgy to say the least, usually stemming from issues of production control. However, if this rumor is credible it suits the UFC’s desire for a smarter, wider-spanning deal than those signed by its competitors.
This would, by far, trump the other 2 network deals, because it would bring in ESPN, *the* sports channel.

The super secret Yamma cage/pit/whatever you wanna call it has been revealed!

Quote:
"The Yamma is a circular pit, shaped almost like a bowl, with a circular flat bottom that rises up around the edge," the promotion explained in a news release. "In this ring, if a fighter is pushed backwards towards the fence, he moves up the lip, gaining both a height and leverage advantage over his opponent. From this position, the fighter on the lip can use gravity and leverage to reverse his opponent and take the fight back into the center without a break in the action."
I fucking hate it when people press each other into the cage. So I'm kinda interested to see this in action. The raised edges look like a recipe for countless injuries though.

I have met Ken and Frank Shamrock a few times. Ol Ken may be getting his ass kicked lately, but holy fuck is that one scary dude. Im hesitant to even speak to him even though he is a really nice and articulate guy for fear that he may decide to kill me for no reason at all.

Honestly, I don't understand how some people think that fight was rigged. If you think Shamrock wasn't trying to knock the piss out of Cung Le in round 3 you're an idiot...honestly I don't know how Le WASN'T knocked out towards the end of the round. The whole card rocked, but yeah that fight was awesome! Our seats were right above where the fighters entered from the locker room.

What the fuck kind of concept art is that? It looks like a birdcage on the moon. How many ankles that are going to get fucked on this is beyond me.

It's all because Frank never really made any kind of effort to take the fight to the ground.

Some people will say it was just Frank's ego that kept him standing. Some might say it's because Frank's bad knee. Others think it was some kind of master plan Frank had because he knew by giving the fans what they wanted to see, win or lose, he could cash in even larger for the rematch.

People are just reaching for answers to why Frank decided to ignore the largest advantage he had.

Ankles and knees aside, it seems like all it would take is one awkward slam onto the raised part to seriously fuck you up. I guess that could be said about any surface though, but that shit isn't gonna help any.

The 3d model looks like something from 1995, but I can't say I'm not interested to see how the raised edge effects fights.

I agree, but I'd like to see two very good unorthodox strikers go at it.

That cage looks retarded, partly because it looks like it belongs in an 80's bondage movie, or the WWE. The raised edge might work out, but all that extra metal and caging just makes it look like a joke.

Meltzer reported Frank's arm actually broke in the 2nd round and Frank toughed it out till the end of the third.
