The fight should've been stopped the second he broke his rib.

Rutten Report 11: "Mauricio had a nest of pit-bull puppies and Wanderlei wanted to have one. Mauricio asked him $600 (for what I understand) for it, but Wanderlei said that he wanted it for free. Mauricio told him that he needed the money and that Wanderlei has money enough anyway. So Wanderlei’s response was that he wanted to fight for the puppy. If Mauricio would win, he would pay him the money, if he would win, he would get the puppy for free. Well, Wanderlei knocked Mauricio out!"

MMAWeekly is reporting that it's official that a Japanese newspaper has published that the Fertitta brothers have bought PRIDE - Source and that there is going to be on official press conference tomorrow to announce it.

Wow. OK here it is. Running log from the press conference.

Highlights include...

Quote:
Sakakibara announced his resignation and has just introduced UFC co-owner and Station Casino magnate Lorenzo Fertitta. There is discussion of a mixed martial arts commission, which Fertitta will act as president. PRIDE will be run separately but under the umbrella of Zuffa, which also controls the WEC.
Quote:
Current PRIDE president Nobuhiko Takada (Pictures) will remain with the new company. Takada has joined the stage, and begins to address the audience. Pride will run separate from UFC but under Lorenzo Fertitta
Some blabber about dream matchups of Pride and UFC guys etc. Not much else. Cro Cop wants to fight Fedor again.

More info here. Basically, just go read Sherdog=P Or any other MMA news site.

Too bad they are a privately owned company, now would be a 'hella-good' time to invest in Zuffa stock.

I find that Rampage doesn't have the confidence in the ring that is required to dominate. He has skill, but he fights too defensive or something...

Yeah in his post fight interview, he seemed really rattled by the crowd response to him. That does seem like a confidence thing... A confident fighter could give 2 shits if hes getting booed or cheered as long as he is beating ass. Hopefully he will loosen up and get in the groove. I'd like to see the LHW division shaken up a bit.

From the mmaweekly front page article:
Quote:
White later said in an interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal that Pride will be adopting the UFC's rules and weight classes. "As far as I'm concerned, if an organization doesn't follow these rules, it's not MMA," White said. White also said that he would have "the option to use Pride fighters in UFC shows" if he chooses.

I wonder if that means an octagon for Pride now? Also curious how they will integrate rules about elbowing, kicking on the ground, etc... You would think they would compromise between the 2 at least, but it sounds like from that quote this isn't the case...

Making the weight classes standard is a good idea IMO though...

Standard weight classes yes.

Yellow cards, 10 minute first rounds, stomps, soccer kicks, and knees to the head, no elbows. Encompasses MMA to me far more then shitty Nevada State and Jersey State rules.

On edit. I'd love to see the Fedor Vs Couture and GSP Vs. Gomi fights that they tossed out there in the press conference.

The weight change doesn't bug me at all, but the rules change pisses me off. I imagine a GSP vs. Gomi fight being extremely one sided in favor of GSP.

I'll be glad if they get into an octagon, but I liked a lot of the pride rules and the yellow cards. Hopefully they'll compromise and allow some of the things pride did.

And I also hope we see Crocop and Fedor in the octagon

IMO the octagon favors fedor even more in a CC fedor fight. However it would take fedor some time to get used to since he is very devastating when opponents are on the ground and he can beat the shit out of them in pride rules, whereas in the ufc the back is a very safe position to be in.
