| Pride Never Die | I honestly can pick between Anderson or Hendo. I don't have a clue who will win. It's as even as you can get between the two fighters I think. It's going to be a fun fight to watch.

| Bob Sapp is not a fighter. Seriously, the way he folds as soon as the blows start coming is exactly how a lot of big guys who like to intimidate/talk shit react when they suddenly realize you're not intimidated and you're not backing down, and they've just talked themselves into a situation where they have to have a go at you. They fold when they start getting hurt, and by trying to protect/shield themselves they just leave their kidneys/face open to some fun knees and elbows. Yeah, yeah, internet tough guy, but if you've gotten into a lot of fights over the years you're probably familiar with the body language and reaction. Or hell, even if you just screw around and fight with pulled blows you'll see this reaction in a lot of people. Sure, Sapp could break me in two. But my point is, he just doesn't have the mental hardware of a fighter, and he likely never will have it, which is why anyone remotely serious sends him into avoidance/flight/oh my god don't hurt me mode. He can train and train, but it's more a matter of how your mental hardware reacts than the software ForF/HPA + CRF production->cortisol+adrenaline+noradrenaline/enkephalins, endorphins, endomorphins, etc. Instead of a ramping up of the stress/danger response, as soon as he gets tapped, Sapp seems to go into full avoidance/panic mode and gets destroyed. In a fighter, all these factors would act as a feedback loop, increasing the hormonal response and subsequent sympathetic activation. In Sapp, his amygdala just screams (hormonally speaking) "STOP LEAVE ME ALONE" and poof, all the fight is gone. Last edited by Schatze : 02-27-2008 at 01:16 PM. |

| Well, I think a pussy is more of a rational thing. This is more of a midbrain, hormonal thing. Ever notice that the fighters that can take/dish the most punishment grow up in some sorry shit hole country or in a shitty situation? Well, constant stress and sympathetic activation actually causes the amygdala to atrophy, and along with that the ability to mediate or shut down the sympathetic/hormonal innervation. The constant innervation also desensitizes them, in regards to the other mental and motor effects that would be detrimental. This also affects how quickly "gassed" a fighter will get. Part of it is of course fitness, but part of it is how long their brains will keep the sympathetic innervation going before the circuit trips, the amygdala says "stop", and the parasympathetic nervous system tries to inhibit the sympathetic innervation. You can chalk them up as just being tough, or go further and say they're tough because of their early lives, but that's essentially meaningless. You can actually look at the factors that give them the actual physiological correlates behind the attributes that we then label as "tough". Sorry for the derail, just my little area of interest here. Last edited by Schatze : 02-27-2008 at 04:01 PM. |

| Good analysis Schatze. Ive always found it hard to tell the difference between Sapp taking a dive, if hes just acting for the Japaneese fans, or if he really gets that mentally rocked off 1 good hit (no matter where, a good shot always sends Sapp into a fleeing frenzy). Just look at what happened against Peter Aerts, 1 sloppy knee sent Sapp into quit mode. I guess mentally the guy hasn't come to terms with the fact that you have to get hit. He goes into fights planning to "dominate". Thats the wrong mindset especially for Sapp. Thats why every time he gets tagged once it looks like a big slap in the face for Sapp mentally then he wants out.

+8 Internets | That throw is called Harai Goshi. It's my favorite forward throw, I use it constantly. Honestly, I think we're going to start seeing a lot more judo (especially sambo adaptations) throws in MMA. Everyone's too "shoot in" centric. Well.. Judo has many answers for the shot. It's just a matter of getting rid of the ye olden stinky Gi. Anyways, this girl shows ya how to do it:

+20 Internets | Looks like ProElite managed to do something the UFC never could. Get on a major prime-time broadcast network. 4 EliteXC events per year on CBS. I really hope CBS forces them to drop Bill Goldberg. Fuck I hate that guy. |

| Pride Never Die | UFC could have did it but they didn't won't to give control to CBS over the production of the broadcast which is something EliteXC is willing to do. CBS owns Showtime basically so it's a no brainer for them. Supposedly from what I read Kimbo is the main event of the first card(unknown opponent) on CBS. If they are smart they'll sign Ken Shamrock to fight him just because of the name recognition and Ken knows how to hype a fight. They could do other fighters like Cabbage maybe or another striker, but Ken would do better ratings I believe. They aren't going to throw Kimbo to the wolves just yet by getting a Barnett or something crazy like get Fedor.

| Has Kimbo gone up against a serious opponent? Going through the vids, he's always going up against people who are 10 years past their prime, have no ground game or take down skills, etc. He's a pretty good boxer, but every fight I've seen has basically been put together to ensure he wins. Anyone point me to any fights that aren't basically rigged (rigged in the sense the opponent is chosen specifically because he will lose). |
